I work at a detailing place/ car wash, and one day we where slow, so i thought i would buff/wax my hood cause it needed it. The detailer that was was working told me it was a brand new pad, used once and cleaned. And i even check to the best of my knowledge it was clean, I did a small area and no swirls etc, so i did the whole hood, and waxed it with Maguares mirror glade yellow wax. A day later i walked over to my car when it was in the sunlight and almost died.. here are pics.










What can i do? When i get unsick "have the flu" i was going to wash, clay, do hand polisher and finish up with a hand wax. I can always go buy NEW pads and redo the hood. Someone cheer me up please.

me personally, i would wash, and clean it with meguires * by hand* then claybar and see what it looks like

What kind of pad did you use? Wool, foam compounding pad? Did you use a glaze and finishing pad? Black is one of the hardest colors to polish without swirl marks. Must use all the right materials.

I think it was wool, same they use on all cars, then used foam to apply wax

Your fine you, its just a little swirly, When you buff a car there are 3 main steps and you left out the most important one, swirl removing. If you really dont know wat you are doing then dont even try on a black car

lol, you didn't hurt anything you just didn't hardly finish. I'm not sure where you left off, but from the pictures it looks like you only polished it.

Let me give you an example of what I do at the shop where I work. I use a mix of 3M and Meguiers (sp?). I used the 3M 3 step system: 1 - rubbing compound (white) with wool pad, 2 - polish with black foam pad, 3 - Ultrafine polish with blue Foam pad, and 4 - I use a different buffer that has an orbital head attachment with some Mequires swirl remover and a foam swirl removing pad. Sometimes I just use the first 2 steps but I always swirl remove, no matter the color (yes even white).

Note: step 1 is used for post wetsanding mostly, don't use it unless your paint is really messed up, that was just part of the example, doesn't mean you have to follow it to the letter.

You used a wool pad with a wax.. most likley with a rotary... not good...

you need to re polish the hood. with a finishing polish and a foam pad then you can rewax

if you had a good on steper you could get away with that..

Stay away from the rotary and wool! Get yourself a PC and some foam pads and some Menzerna, you will be MUCH better off. Good luck.

looks like you burned through the clear coat. i would use the turtle wax black wax by hand and see what happens,

No he didn't. Those are just heavy swirls and holograms from the wool pad and rotary. Wax won't help but cover things up a little. The damage needs to be removed by a professional.

looks like some surface marring from the wool pad. go with what GoFast and Baja said. I wouldn't even waste my time with the black box or anything like that.
