Default 4l80e swap on a 98 z28 camaro

im needing to find a 4l80e transmission,yoke,converter everything to do a swap in a 98 z28 camaro.....

there has been 3 4l60e's put in it already and they have all gotten 40 miles or less on them and then have broke... need a 4l80e as it will hold up to the horsepower this camaro is putting out.

which means i need to find everything to do the swap.....

anybody know of anything for sale or have any good advice???

Default so

you dont have one for sale? did you do all the work by yourself? was it alot of work and expensive?

what we have is a motor 540 - 550 HP and on top of that a 200 shot NOS wet kit.and the three 4l60e's thats been in it have all broke within 40 or less miles. its got a 390 gear. what HP is your motor running, gear, stall, ect... what do you think of the stock 4l80e?

i am thinking running a stock one with a 3000 stall. money is tight these days.

A stock 4L80 with a shift kit would work well for your application. Being in a ligthweight car helps a lot; the stock converter should stall to around to around 2800 or so as well.......one of them does anyway as there are two different ones.

Personally I'd go with a larger stall though even though I don't know your mods.

Have you looked into shifters for the 4l80e's? I believe the gear selector distances are unique and I don't know of any aftermarket shifters that are compatible.

A stock 4L80 with a shift kit would handle your setup. For a converter I'm partial to Yank since I've had 2 in my truck and love them. Stall speed I'd look at least for 3600 or so and leaning towards 3800.

The stock PCM will work but you will have to have a segment swap done; meaning having the 4L80 info integrated to your current tune. The problem with this is that there's no flash for a 4L80 equipped f-body. It can be done but IDK what all is involved.

Look up Cablebandit on here too; he's done the swap and is from Ga. as well. Where are you in Ga.?

the north east corner of GA where are you from? which shift kit would be best trans pac?

can i drive with these stalls on the high way with 390 gear?
and which yank converter should i use with the 200 shot?

i found a yank converter from a 99 c5 corvette with a 2002 4l80e, ss4000. would this work for my application?

You can segment swap a 99-02 PCM, but not the 98s.

Several of the sponsors sell good converters, and will recommend you the right one. Call several of them and see which one you like the best.
Yank, Circle D, possibly FTI (not sure if they do the 80e)

With that much hp, it may or may not. A good rebuilt one will hold up fine.

I *think* I can get a 4L80E to run on a 4L60E tune. I need to test it still though.

What is the ultimate purpose of the car? I read H/C N20 car with 3.90 gears that you want to go on the hwy with? Money is tight? Yes, after 3 transmissions that only last 40 miles a piece? That 80, converter, flexplate and driveshaft is not going to be cheap anyway you look at it? What kind of rpms were you spining the 60's to? Well built 60's don't like sustained high rpms(+6600rpms)- that LS6 intake will fall off before that anyways. A better built 60 / conveter combination could serve the rest of the combination you already have if you could elaborate on your goals?

Million ways to go fast...

You will not be able to do the tranny segment swap with the 98 pcm. You could stand to benefit a great deal by upgrading the pcm to a 99+up and get to take advantage of EFI Live's Custom Operating System #5 that would allow you to run MBT N/A and at the flip of a switch while driving pull timing and add fuel instantly for the N20.

FTI does indeed make an 80e converter, just installed one last weekend

4l60e,junk!!![] thanks for all the help guys. my computer tuner swears he can make my stock 98 computer work with the 4l80e. anybody know for absolutely positivley sure whether it will or wont work?! not that i dont trust u guys that say it wont or will, i just need to know for sure if anyone has tried it.

my sponsor wants me to run a vigalanti stall with triple clutches.he is also the guy that says his tuner told him he could make the stock computer work in a 98 pcm.

Too many people are saying yes and no to using a stock computer. has anyone tried using the pcm or know anyone they can ask that has done it.

Jim at "Speed Tweekerz" said his tuner said it would work. He is usually very good with ls1 knowledge. he has helped me so much, and has not guided me wrong yet.very good on customer service and fast shipment and prices.
Car is being trailered from here to his shop in Missouri. to be sprayed for the first time on the dyno to be tuned, hoping for decent numbers.

you can check out his website at www.speedtweekerz.com he is full of knowledge and even some people say "ls1 gear headed guru". but dont tell him i said that. lol :-D

is a 3600 stall gonna be ok for everyday driving?
Aggravated, turbo 400 is still lingering in my head, but i know everyday driving will be less obtainable.

come on guys ... keep it coming... help me out... please!

you can listen and see the car at this link!
the tag now says "HEREHRC" for those pesky mustangs..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOgo7ESVaL4

thanks for all your guys's help. i really do sincerely appreciate it. you have all helped me out alot so far.
