i just ordered 4.10s for my a4 02 ws6, was this a bad idea? it is a dd, i have lts and true duals, lid, small bolt ons. is this not a good gear for the a4? also will have a full tune after the install.

They are a nice upgrade for the autos, some will call them a bit extreme though. Loud exhaust and 3K on the hwy gets old for some people real fast. Or maybe those people are just getting too old???

extreme due to the gearing or the sound? i like being louder than everyone else, i only drive to work and back and sometimes on the weekend, other than that i drive the ol ladies badass escape. will there be a drastic difference?

The sound of the exhaust will be louder because your car will be at higher rpms. You will mainly notice it on the highway. Most A4's like myself however go with 3.73s. The perfect balance between fun and annoying.

Put your tranny in whatever gear you want, like 2nd or 3rd, then bring the rpms up to 3000 or so and just drive like that in that gear. Thats what 4.10s will be like at freeway speeds.

4.10s will probably be a great gear for hp, but may be a bit too high for nitrous. In addition, you may not like them for cruising around and/or highway driving. I like the 3.23 for my daily driver, but went with 3.42s when I upgraded to a 12 bolt as 3.23 isn't available for the 12 bolt.

well thank you for the opinions, im not a drag racer but when i do run something on the street i like to run from 10-15 mph, or from a stop, thought would give the advantage to me, ill just try em out and see how it goes, if you guys dont mind ill keep you posted in case someone else wants to try them as well, thanks fellas.

good luck on traction i think its way to much unless your goint to be on drag radials..my bro had 315 tires and still had to roll on the throttle anything under 3rd gear. that was before long tubes too.

I wouldn't touch that rear end at all on your car. Do other things first. Like get a stall.

If you rely on the car to drive everyday don't put 4.10's in your car. Your gains will be very minimal anyways and your mpg on the highway will drop to about 17 at 65mph.

for a DD, I woulda went 3.42. I got 3.42's in mine and am about to go 4.10's but I never drive it so the high RPM and loss of mileage won't bother me much.

Well they are already ordered so they might as well go in, we do drive an ls1 so do we really give a **** about gas? That seems to be the deal with most, maybe I should go buy a hybrid, I only drive about 40 miles a week unless I go for a drive on the weekend. I don't wanna know about gas, I wanna know about perormance with them. Any opinions about that?

Relistically in a stock car you might gain a tenth at the track, since you already have 3.23's.

For some people gas mileage is important, dropping like 30% off your gas mileage can be a big factor for most. Never mind the motor always sitting up at higher rpms. more rpms, more wear and tear, lower motor life, etc.

If you only drive 40 miles a week it would have been relavant to say so in the beginning. For a toy or a weekend warrior put whatever in you want, but like said earlier I think the 3.42's are a great match for an A4 street car.

If your gonna race the car with 4.10's and a 26" tire your gonna be limited at about 116mph at 6200rpms. So think about that, you'd probably top out on a 100shot or anything close to 400rwhp in the long run.

There are so many other things you could throw your money at to go faster before you touch the rear, especially a 10 bolt. A nice stall and some nittos, would almost cut a whole second off your ET. I've had 3.23's, 3.42's, and now 3.91's. I've cut a 1.6 60' foot with my 3.23 10 bolt and I guarantee the big half will suffer with the stock cam and 4.10's.

The gears will make it feel faster, but the gains are minimal and you will not have the same top end. Just slapping some 4.10's in a bolt on car isn't ideal. If you already got em' then feel free to do it up, remember though that the 10 bolt is a hair better than a toothpick. Adding those gears will not only add more punishment and rotation to it, but any lower gear like that is also effectively weaker than the equivalent higher.

It's not the end of the world, you might as well go ahead and try em'. Can always change it up later.

I'm not completely stock, my numbers are 351, 346 so thank you for your opinion, it did help but I guess trial and error, if I don't like em I'll go down to a 3.73 or a 42.
