Heres the break down for you as far as pads go. Keep in mind that there are a lot of pads out there but you really need no more then 2-3 different pads to get the job done 100%.

Always start by using the LEAST aggresive pad combo. Here's what I would recommend.

Lake Country Orange pad-Mild cutting power and the one that i've always used. Get atleast one of these, maybe two if you polish often.

LC White- Your polishing pad to be used after the orange pad.

LC Red-This pad you can use for your very last step products as it has no cutting power. Its good to apply glazes, sealents or waxes.

As mentioned you can get these products at tropi-care. But, if you really wanna learn about detailing and other ways to maintain your paint and keep it looking mint, check out this site, you'll find a lot of great info.

For my Porter-Cable, I get my pads from www.Megiuarsonline.com

Use their 8006 pad to apply polishes and swirl removers etc.
Use their 9006 pad to apply their NXT waxes or other waxes.

I keep 2-3 clean pads on hand all the time, even though I wash them occasionally.

I also use their white microfiber bonnet covers on my PC to remove wax.

I run a detailing business out of my garage, and time is money.

Good luck!

I still havent had the chance to use my porter cable. I need to get a backing plate right? I hear the 5 inch pads are the best also is this true. And in the 5 inch pads I only see orange, yellow and white pads but none that are made for waxes. Im confused. lol

I went from 6" pads down to 4" and will not go back to anything larger. Yes, you have a smaller surface to work with, however the machine is now much more efficient in removing defects. This is simply due to the fact that the PC doesn't exactly have a powerful motor and having less rotational mass can only be a good thing.

I would look into a set of 4" pads and backing plate if you are serious about paint correction.

I have had good results and good reviews from the buyers of the 4" pads. Since Steve has added these to the inventory, they have become my best seller. Especially with smaller areas that need correcting, the 4" pads are unbeatable

fbodyman1026: yes you will need a backing plate to use the LC pads with the Porter Cable. We carry both the large and small plates depending on the pads you have.

I've never used the Red pad for applying anything, but I like the blue pad for applying waxes and sealants...as well as glazes.

Is applying the wax with the PC any better than by hand, besides getting it done faster?
