Are those straight from Dart? My Dart's valve springs looked to have different retainers. What was the setup/cam?

Here is yours compared to mine. All Dart's came with PSI 1511 valve springs (one of the top beehive springs on the market) and titanium retainers. Sure looks like someone replaced some parts and those retainers don't fit very well.

its my car, they are dart springs out of the box...AFAIK

setup was dart 205's torquer 2 cam, HS rockers, TSP pushrods, stock bottom end.

time to go lq9 408

edit: why in the hell is there so much carbon build up ? anyone have any ideas?

The retainers looks completely different, they also look like they are steel and maybe even stock retainers. They don't fit well either. Did you get these heads straight from a vendor?

To the OP:

I looked up the cam specs. Per the way my Dart's were set up, you were very very close to coil bind. I would suggest you remove the other springs and get a valve spring micrometer and check the installed height.

Those don't look like Dart OEM springs or retainers. Where were these purchased? I wouldn't be so quick to blame this on Dart.

they were purchased from a "local" shop that I was recommended to by a neighbor it was a fiasco, at the time I knew little about cars/ls1's and got hosed.

I'll do that for sure, what is the procedure to measuring installed height?

I have Dat 205's/HS rockers and T1 cam. Been running for years. They do not look like my springs. Sorry for the problem.

Go with a LS7.
