HO Alternator Purchase
I am looking for a new, HO alternator.
I have the following audio components:
CDT CL-E61CV door
CDT HD-M6 sail
CDT CL-4X hatch
CDT SQA-4100 amp http://cdtaudio.com/sqa_4100.htm
The car is currently full bolt ons, full exaust, underdrive pulley, ls6 intake. This winter I will be pulling the engine for HCI and NOS upgrades. I want to get an alternator that will handle any future needs... such as fuel pumps, electric water pump ect...
I also have done a battery relocation to rear.
The cars stock alternator still charges, just not sufficient enough to keep the battery healthy with my mods... starts to drain at red lights. It starts pretty weak, I am getting a new starter also.
Any Ideas about what amp alternator I should look for? Would 150-160 be enough? Or should I just bite the bullet and get a 200? 235?
Any thoughts about these products:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LS1-C...42110001r15347
Thanks in advance.
Nick

I ran a 235 amp alt with my underdrive pulley just ti make sure I didn't have any issues. That was with 2 12s and two phoenix gold 400w amps though so I don't know how that compares to your setup. I didn't have problems though unless I sat idle for a while. My car was an automatic. I got the alt from 4alterstart on ebay I think. That might be the name of their website too but I don't remember.

Yep, that and possibly a yellow top. I am running over 1200 watts and never go in to the red, even at idle. I went to a high output alternator for awhile but with an underdrive pulley they didn't do to well since most of them use smaller pulleys themselves to spin faster. I went back to a stock alternator and it's been fine.

The underdrive pulley might be a problem - I've had at least one 160-amp alternator that required me to idle it at 900 RPMs to get it to charge with an underdrive pulley. I've since switched back to a stock sized pulley, and have no issues idling my 200-amp alternator at 800 RPMs (stock idle RPM for a 6-speed, and even lower if you have an auto).
You just need to see where the alternator's turn on RPMs are - for higher amperage alternators, the turn-on RPMs tend to be higher.

Good stuff, thanks for the input guys. I will be looking at getting a yellow top soon, and doing the "big 3".
From everything I have read, I am tentative about getting a HO Alt with my underdrive pulley, it just doesnt seem like it will do much and I am not getting rid of the underdrive...
Anybody know a good place to look for some big cable for doing these "big 3" upgrades (0 ga, 2 ga, ect....)?
