Swap from 241 to 243 heads?
I am ordering a cam kit soon. Undecided on specific cam right now. I emailed TSP for a cam reccomendation, but thinking something like 228r, tsp 228 or the el torro cam at this point.
I know of a set of 243 heads off a Z06 with patriot gold springs already installed with only around 2k miles on the springs. How much power would I gain with the swap on untouched 243 heads vs. leaving my stock heads on. Is it worth the swap? Also should I make a cam decision after I decide on buying the heads? Would the 243 heads work better with a different cam than what would be best for the 241's?

cant really help you much on the cam selection for 243s...most cams seem to net the same HP/ per head. But from what ive read, stock 243s are worth about 25hp over 241s. If you can pick the heads up cheap and plan on changing lifters with the cam swap, Id say it would be worth the extra $$$. But to me, no point in putting stock 243s on..might as well get them ported, but then your looking at the cost of the PRC LS6s from TSP, so might as well order from them....lol Ive been mullin this over for the last 6 months.
Wow you responded to your own post before I could lol......Id say go with the 2nd choice

The 243's are the best bang for the buck specially when they are ported and polished. Again though do not get hung up on the numbers it is velocity that makes a good head. What you need to do is find a reputable shop, send them your heads with your cam card and they can make your combo run great.

talking to pat g on the same subject he said try and find a good machine shop and have them milled with a GOOD valve job on the cheap, install some springs. he said on a decent cam you can see 400-430 out of a ls1. i know theres cam only cars making those numbers, but these are on a milder cam. i was talking to him on the same subject and basically telling him im putting a lot into a tranny/clutch/rearend, so he suggested this. which doesnt sound to be too bad.
also look at it this way. its about half the cost of a FAST intake/tb and worth about the same amount of horsepower, not to mention you get to tear in there and see if anything is wrong with your motor, top end!
