Default Just got done Whistlering the headlights and ****...

Well I picked up some stock Camaro headlights on the boards here that I planned on doing the Whistler mod to. Everything went perfectly fine until I went to remove the painters tape that I had laid down to protect the chrome backing. When I pulled the tape up, some of the chrome backing came up with the tape in a few small areas. ****... It's not enough to affect light output but it looks kind of shitty now. Do I have any options or am I just stuck with it... ?

Thanks

Does chrome touch up paint actually work though? All the ones that I've ever seen have just basically been silver paint...

if its little spots where you can barely notice i would use that but if they are larger areas idk as of the paint most of them are just silver with more metallic to make look like chrome they do have a chrome paint but it really expensive. well good luck with fixing them

i see this happening to a lot of people. you need to use a very light-adhesive tape.

if you pulled up paint from the ribbed area, you can just go ahead and paint that black too. but if it's from the very back i think the chrome touch up paint should be fine and unnoticeable.

Yeah, i noticed that they painters tape I was using had quite a bite to it so I actually ran it between my fingers to try to dull up how much "tack" it had to it prior to taping the backing area off. Apparently it wasn't enough. Oh well, it's just in a small area so I'll just touch her up with some chrome touch up paint and we'll see how it goes!

Thanks guys!

GET some CHROME (mirror) vinyl! Same thing happened to me, so I bought some chrome vinyl and cut out pieces to fit. It looks very nice and you can't even tell which headlight received the treatment...

Yeah, I was reading about that stuff. It sounds like the way to go. Where do you get it from and how much does it usually run?

I ordered it from Brent Franker (I don't know if he still sells it)

He gave me 8"x8" sheet for $1-$3 (I don't remember exact cost)

I cut out little rectangles to fill the "scarred" spots. It really dpends how bad they are. There was only like 7-8 scarred spots to fill on my light...

It seems that that only seems to happen to aftermarket headlights. I did the whistler to my 7 year old OEM's and had no problems. A friend did it to his 1 year old aftermarket HL's and the chrome came right up with painters tape.

Yeah, I've only really got one small spot. Most of the chrome is gone from one of the squares but that's it. I'll look around online and see what I can find. Thanks for the idea though bro, I appreciate it.

one spot should be a simple fix, just look for mirror chrome online and your problem will be solved. Glad I could help

you could go to the hardware store and get some foil duct tape, it has a chrome like appearance.
