Question Help with cam

Hello! Okay so I have a 2002 WS6 Trans Am (stock and automatic) that I purchased recently and I want to put a cam in it but don't want to get a stall right now so it needs to be one that can handle my stock stall. My car is a daily driver but I still want a cam that will be loud and have awesome performance and a semi rough idle, nothing wimpy. I do not know much about cams and do not know which one to get that is the best bang for the buck and for my car. Also I am going to put headers and a y-pipe on. Any suggestions?!

Welcome back. Good choice on getting into another Trans Am.

Consensus is that only a mild cam will work with a stock stall. If you want one that lumps a little at idle your driveabilty will be compromised.

A stock TA runs great. It might be best to do both cam and stall at the same time.

Question Stall and cam

So I am going to buy a stall as well as a cam (and headers and y pipe.) So what size stall and what cam do you recommend? Remember it is an auto, daily driver, and I do want a semi-rough idle.

You will get lots of great opinions on which way to go. A common theme will emerge.

atleast a 3000 stall, proably bigger. Im going 3000 or 3200 when I get the funds(look into yank stalls). Headers look into hooker, kooks, or qtp if you have the money. Pacesetter is proably best bang for the buck longtubes available. As for cam, I cant really help you on the specs, I drive a v6 . Check out comp cams and look over thier catalog.

Send predator-z or patg a PM and ask them to spec out a cam for you that will fit your goals and the mods you are doing to your car. I know pat charges $25 to have a custom cam spec'd, not sure about Pred

I'd suggest a 3200 or 3400 stall, i had a 3400 vig on my previous
T/A and it really woke up my car. Also be sure to have the car tuned after
the cam install.

Yank SS4000, Pacesetter headers and y pipe and I am putting a MS3 cam with ported LS6 heads on the car. If I was modding a daily driver I would go with the same setup but go with a smaller converter like a 2800-3200.

I wouldn't use a MS3 on a smaller converter.

Also, I don't daily drive my car, but with a SS3600 it is very tame.
