Default T-56, TKO-600 or what?

I have T-56 from F-body for my racecar project, how much torque / Hp it can take and what are it´s weak points, plan is 450-500whp NA LS1.

I´ve also have been thinking of buying TKO-600 and to save this T-56 for my other street car project. Does T-56 Bellhousing(?) or clutchhousing(?) (which one is it, little language barrier) fit directly to TKO-600 gearbox?

A T-56 will hold 500WHP no problem. weak points in a stock T-56 would be 3-4 shift fork and Synchronizers

which you might as well build since it's out of the car anyways...

The weak points in the stock T56 are:

1) Plastic fork pads

2) Stamped steel syncro keys

Upgraded billet keys installed

Compared the 2

3) Aluminum 3-4 shift fork

But you can upgrade the above listed items and be good for about 600 FT LBS.

Contact any of the transmission vendors on here and tell them you wanna do the basic upgrades to your T56. It should take a couple hundred bucks and it'll be a damn stout trans for the $$$....better yet, you'll have a steeper overdrive compared to the TKO600.

I had a T56 in my TA, I have a T56 in my GTO, and I have a TKO600 in my Cobra. I'd have the TKO proshifted for the race car and I'd do the basic upgrades to the T56 for the street car.

Thanks for answers :-)

What about this bellhousing issue. And what are TKO-600 weak points?

The biggest issue is shifting quality with the TKO600.

They make brass fork pads i currently have 1/2/3/4 and we are currently in the process of installing the new 5/6 brass pads today. ( was having problems with getting into 5'th gear because one of the plastic pads broke on the 5'th/6'th fork )

I have full billet keys
All brass pads
All steel forks besides 3/4 <--- kinda gay they dont make a steel fork for 3/4

Other then that i have no problems at all and im good up to 600 ish

Uhhhh, yes they do.

On a side note to OP....the T56 will handle A LOT of abuse, when properly setup. As pointed out already, weak links (and easily fixed) are teh stock nylon fork pads, stamped shift keys, and the aluminum 3/4 shift fork. One thing that was not mentioned is the upgrade to carbon fiber blocking rings (stock they are paper lined)

Well, that fork normally does not have any problems once you upgrade to bronze pads...

I am not aware of a steel 1-2 fork being available but G Force might offer one.

When you say 450-500rwhp N/A ls1 do you mean LS1 based build or a stock cubed ls1? The T-56's don't like to shift after 7K+ rpms and you're shifts should be right around that area when nearing the 500rwhp mark with a N/A 346.
