Drag Racing Tech - Rear Bumper Brace

Ok, I finished taking off the bumper and removed the "egg crate" item. I held it in my hand and it doesn't feel like 20 lbs to me. I saw that there is, what appears to be, hard plastic that the egg crate support was bolted on to running along the rear. Am I also supposed to take this off too? If so, how?

Yes, the 'hard plastic' thing comes off too. Its actually fiberglass. That piece unbolts from the backside of the frame-ends on the underside of the car

Weight reduction? Do you guys run them on the street like that? I just wonder about bumper sag and what happens if you get in an impact collision?


Also... I know some insurance companies supposedly deny claims if said pieces aren't there and you are in an accident.

Would suck to have to pay 5k or more out of pocket. Part of the reasons I never looked into doing this.

Im sure the OP is aware of the consequences in a collision and insurance companies, therefore its his choice and opinion on this

no my car isnt street-driven and also no bumper-sag. If you have bumper-sag after removing the reinforcement/brace, its a really simple fix. Remove the bumper cover and bend the top lip upwards that the cover sits on. I posted a few posts on bumper-sag in paint and body a while back which is more in-depth on bumper-sag and instructions on the fix

James i took my support off too. Then i made an aluminum brace to keep the rear bumper from falpping while driving

ive had my front and rear bumper supports out for 2 yrs now, DD the car for a year and half like that, still do on nice days.

Got it out. Thanks! I see how it flaps around now, which I was expecting and in the next few days figure out the best way of securing the bumper. Anyone have any ideas or recommendations or pictures for that matter?

I also seem to have a lil' gap between rear fender and quarter panel on the driver's side (above the side marker light). Anyone know of a fix?

Rear bumpers on a firebird/TA are prone to being flimsy towards the bottom due to the design of the exhaust cutouts. Camaro rears are actually sturdy. Bracing is the fix to that prob. Batmobile, in my post above is instructions on the sagging issue

Yes, I read it but is it a fix for the back end where the tail lights meet the bumper only? Because my sag is on the side above my side marker lights where the quarter panel meets the rear side bumper. Thanks.

No prob man. Yes that is the fix for the sag at the qtr panel corner. Exactly where mine sagged
