Default HELP!!! After rebuild t56 FIRST LOCKED OUT

Rebuilt my tranny. Shifts in all gears and drives great except 1st. Push hard and it will barely start to grind with the clutch depressed. Got any idea what I did wrong? The only thing I KNOW I did was when I put the shift rail guide bolts in I had to shift the tranny to get them to go in. Could they be binding the linkage some how? I didn't have the tranny in neutral when they were installed. It feels like something is locking it out. Thanks for the help.

also it will go in reverse fine and will not go in 1st with car on or off. It isn't the clutch or master.

How does the shifter feel when pushing it side to side or up and down?

Only thing I can think of is an errant shifter stop, or the blocker-rings weren't keyed/installed correctly on 1st gear.

Side to side feels great. nice like it should. second as well as all gears go in smooth. From neutral position into first feels like it is hitting a stop. If I push real hard It will slightly grind. What exactly do the two torx bolts on top actually do. Since I had it in a gear instead of neutral when they were installed could they be causing this?

They keep the shift rails from moving out of alignment as they slide forward/back and rotate. If they were mis-installed, more than just 1st gear would have problems.

Not the best pic, but you can see the pins come down and into the 5/6/R rail slot for back&forth movement. The other pin retains the selector "cam" on the main shiftrail to allow it to rotate, but not move back&forth.

If not careful, the engagement arm of the Rev shift rail can fall off the "cam" and it could be engaged.

Nice pic!!! really shows the detail. I must have something wrong with the 1-2 syncro...maybe the keys popped out slightly when I was putting it back together.

Well, you don't have to lie about it That pic is HORRIBLE

I mean it does show what he is trying to explain, but not sure I have ever seen a more out of focus digital pic than that

Just busting your ***** Mike...

I do agree with Mike...if only happening in one gear, PROBALY not the shifter rail/pins.

Is teh tranny IN teh car? Or still sitting out and you are having this problem??

Took it out. Tore it down. Some how a cracked blocker ring made it into the tranny. Since it was cracked it would spead slightly larger then the syncro preventing it from going into gear. Talk about a kick in the A$$!! Well at least I found it. I'll tell you what I feel like a T56 Pro now! LOL I don't even know how it got there because I replaced everything......maybe building it at 2:00am might have had something to do with it. Anyway thanks to everyone for the help!!!
