Default Wot Advance..... How Much Is Safe????

I was wondering how much advance I could have and be safe at WOT? I have it set at 30 right now, could I go higher??? I have access to very good fuel so pinging hasn't been any problem. Any thoughts???

If your running race gas all the time 34-36 can be had for a few more HP.

I run 31 degrees max (at high rpm) at WOT but that is only above 5600 rpm. The way I have it setup I get no NR (93 octane pump gas) The key is logging your car ALOT and selectively pulling timing at the RPM range where you typically get knock. Your timing table should dip a little where your max torque is, and peak where max hp is.

Below is WOT timing table (.06 gms/cyl), from 400-8000 rpms.

400 12.0
600 14.8
800 7.0
1000 10.0
1200 14.0
1400 17.0
1600 19.0
1800 22.0
2000 26.0
2200 27.0
2400 28.0
2800 29.0
3200 31.0
3600 33.0
4000 28.0
4400 29.0
4800 29.0
5200 30.0
5600 32.0
6000 31.0
6400 31.0
6800 31.0
7200 31.0
7600 31.0
8000 31.0

P.S. WOW post 666 for me!!!

I typically would not run more than 30 degrees of timing at WOT using 93 pump gas.

I have seen a contact use 110 leaded and run 36 degrees of timing (max example).

I think we need to be careful with timing, if you get KR you can add 2 degrees and have the pcm take out 4 degrees or MORE.

Also timing is timing, some folks on here are a bit too cavalier about adding more timing.

I agree with Pro stock John somewhat. You have to be careful with how you do your timing/A/F.I run 30 degree's of timing from 2200 up with 11.2-1 compression but took time to get the fueling right. On the dyno the difference was at 3000rpm= 26 degree's compared to 30 degree's,,10hp/15tq more with 30 degree's.It can really help the midrange but seems to take out some peek HP.

I'm at about 11.2:1 CR, I only run VP Fuel 103 Motorsports Unleaded in my car. I am to run 34* timing with 0 knock retard. My car is a track only car of course, at $6.00 a gallon I ain't driving to the store to get milk.

Every motor is different, becarefull with adding too much timing.

I run 33-36 degrees in some areas pump gas on some cars. Not at 7000 rpm though!
