Good article. Answers a lot of the questions that many of the GTO, fbody, and LS1 faithful have had.

"GM officials say they will sell the GTO as a true muscle car that improves on its predecessors' straight-line acceleration and adds responsive handling."
That's odd, since you've previously mentioned that it's not about going quick in a straight line. Here they are saying that's the selling point just as the original - a dragstrip/stop light terror. That is saying that straight line acceleration is the number 1 priority, while "adding" responsive handling just makes it compete with the likes of the Cobra and G35.

Many of the new GTO buyers have outgrown its predecessors. Let's face it, without the GTO Pontiac has NOTHING I would buy. Then again, other than my Tahoe, neither does any other GM make.

I agree... there isn't much they offer. But i'm just saying that GM is quoted in text that they plan on using the original GTO's straight-line performance to regain the appeal. Wheither you like it or not, and wheither Csaba & Co. like it or not, American's, in general, judge performance on how fast it is in a straight line, and GM knows this. Hence, their marketing strategy.
You are trying to make it seem that Pontiac has grown up from the boy racer Trans Am, to a refined sports coupe. You personally might not ever see the drag strip, but you can not deny the fact that this car has a lot of hype about how quick it's going to be down the 1320 or at a light next to a Cobra (well, pre 03). That's what most Americans want to see.

I'm glad Pontiac is pushing the straight line marketing. Why else would they consider an LS1 powered 2-door if they weren't concerned with promoting the performance of it? These will definitely hit the tracks when they come out.

I hear pontiac is going to enter the GTO(monaro) into NHRA pro stock according to National Dragster, kinda brings you back to the superstock days. whats next nascar? At least the GTO is RWD and pushrod V8!
Remember what people thought of the impala SS when it first came out, ugliest car ever blah blah blah it somewhat backed up its name and now its a collectors item and everyone says their cool now.

This statement is wrong. I am buying a GTO. I would not have bought any other Pontiac, or any other GM product for that matter.

Day after never! :bang:
Ordered on July 22nd, second one ordered at the dealership. First TPW was 10/3, then 10/30, now 11/27. Nearly two months delayed. Pontiac, GM and the dealer can't tell me if the car is built or not, where it is or when I will see it.
Not real confident that I will see it before February. Can't believe I'm actually willing to wait nearly 7 months to get a car. I guess I really am as dumb as you all thought.
Here's how I feel.

I don't have the car, but I DO have (3) of the official GM Made In Australia "5.7" liter chrome emblems. :hail:
Guess those made it overseas quicker than the car did. :jest:
Can't decide whether to put them on the fenders or my fuel rail covers? :bang:
