I have tried almost everything so I didn't have to buy a pc but nothing worked. I bought one in the spring and finally got around to using it today. I can tell you that it works wonders. Just buy one and you wont regret it.

Buy a PC and yes you can mix polish and wax... a real polish shouldn't add any protection what so ever, so it shouldn't interfere with the wax/sealant bonding to your paint.

I use 3M products to get the paint in it's best condition (compund/polish) with a rotary polisher and foam pads ($70 at Autozone). For removing swirls by hand I would recommend 3M Perfect-It 3000 Ultrafina SE. Keep in mind you have to wash the car to remove the residue it leaves behind.
Then I do coats of Klasse High gloss sealent glaze (pure acrylic) and end with Zaino Z5, Z2 with Z8 Grand Finale between coats which seems the most optically clear.

I'm actually detailing my buddies 99 TA right now. and its black! such a pain but I'm actually using what you mentioned first. Meguires Ultra cut compound 105 with a PC (not Portor cable brand) and then tomorrow I will apply the Zaino.
