Dyno Guesses & Bench Racing Forum - does the outcome to this race sound right?

I just bought my '00 SS m6 last friday, and me and my friend with a 2000 5 spd.mustang GT raced yesterday, and the outcome was a little disappointing, well, kinda. I beat him by a half car, i just thought it shoulda been a car, or maybe car and a half.
His mods are:
bullitt intake manifold
75mm t.b.
c&l massair and inlet pipe
steeda underdrive pullies
o/r x pipe w/ borla catback
tuned SCT chip
4.30 gears
My car is bone stock except for a K&N and a flowmaster.
We raced from about 3k rpm's in second gear, til almost the end of 3rd.
he sais his car was in 3rd, but i had mine in second.
his car is definatly quick, especially with the 4.30's, but i still was expecting to beat him a little worse.
What do yall make of this? should i be happy with the results or what

He's got more then enough mods to keep up with you.
And you want to be higher in your powerband than that dude.
You're not making shit that low.
Go to a higher MPH next time, then watch him fade back.
-Matt
If your stock that seems like a respectable win. For all the mods he has he should be able to keep up with you or at least put a car on you, especially with those 4.30 gears.

in that case i guess ill be happy with the win. Ive had 2 mustangs just like his with similar mods, and i remember racing a local 6spd WS6 that was stock except for a catback, and he ran all over me.
I guess theres a bunch of factors. It does make me feel good though to at least know that i won and im bone stock! Just wanted a couple of opinions about it

You also race only up to your end of third. That's a short burst. Get rid of that flowmaster, put something better and make sure your MAF sensors are clean. I'm sure it have some oil in it from the K&N.

didnt think about the oil, thanks for the tip! i actually just cleaned and re oiled it today. Ill clean it out tomorrow along with the throttlebody cuz im sure its gunked up.
and yes, that flowmaster is history as soon as i can afford either a gmmg or corsa catback. maybe a borla, MAYBE

good luck with finding a GMMG under $500. i think they sound the best out of all exhaust, but look what youre paying for.

who said anything about $500?

Gear will make or break a modular car ESPECIALLY a GT,I should know. A GT with lots of gear can do great things just not for very long. He'll just hit his 58-6200 redline ( depending on the year ) really soon and be out of steam shortly. Now if it's a 4v car that's a whole another ball game.

Oh come on :eyes:. Anyway, good race OP. I'd be interested to see how that race takes place from a dig.

Money on the Mustang from a dig with those gears. You will be fetching at the end but I doubt you will get around him. Also, starting in second at 3000rpm wasn't doing you any favors especially considering you're on stock gearing. Your car is undoubtedly faster as the speeds increase, but you played his game and his car gave you hell. In my experience, my car with stock gearing was always most effective when it was at or above 4500rpm. Keep that in mind next time.

come on what??!..all I said was make the gearing even and see what happens. We all know it will make a big difference...stop swinging from the 2v's nuts. If they had the same gears from a dig it'd be over before it starts...I'd like to see that race take place from a dig...lol

Yes... but they didn't have the same gears. Just like they didn't have the same bolt-ons. I think you might be pointing the nut-swinging finger the wrong direction. :swing:

I've got 3 camaros and I'm on ls1tech...that puts me right @ home...just a matter of preference...if you like slow cars keep driving them...who am I to tell you to stop...people like you make street racing fun

I'm a car enthusiast... I'm right at home too. All the people here that dislike anything not GM always bitch about when the "what if's" or "if this car had those mods" come up, but then you did exactly that. And for the record, I'd run your '96 Z28 in my slow car ;)

and since we in the bench racing thread I'd smoke that as* too. BTW...and in case you forgot...I've owned many fords, dodges, imports, etc so I'm a car enthusiast as well. Just because I have 3 camaros right now doesn't mean I dislike everything else....for example I also have an 86GT mustang project car and a 95 neon with srt4 swap. Its all in good fun Irunelevens..we've both been here awhile so I'm just giving you hell

yeah he made me slow down to his speed so he could have his car in the right gear and the right rpm....
if we'd slowed down to 4500 and i was in 2nd, i would have pulled alot harder a whole lot faster

Looks like you have plenty of experience with driving slow cars! How many of them were/are ten second street cars?

actually one is very close to being a 10 second street car...I just have to get the suspension figured out. I powershift around 6800 just after the nitrous shuts off:thumb:
