Default ATE rear rotor problems??? - Solved: Rear Axle Housing Problems

Has anyone run into ATE rotor fitment issues on the rear of the car?

THe rotors bolt up but it looks like they are to thick and bind in the caliper and bracket. I can't even spin the tire with them on.

I wonder if I got a bad set or if this is common.

That's a first...

The coating is very thin, and I've never had this happen. That said because of how the e-brake is setup on LT1's and 3rd gens the calipers often stick. My '91 had a caliper that would not completely retract the piston and it was always a pain when putting new rear pads on the car.

I'd recommend a call to ATE if you have any further issues:

I looked into it further today and its binding on the caliper bracket not the pads. It looks like the rotors to thick. I'm expecting a customer service call back from ATE sometime tomorrow.

Seems like everything I touch goes south some how. Oh well.

Well I spoke with ATE and my rotors are indeed cut to spec. ATE's spec is 20mm on the rear rotor. My rotor actualy comes out to a little over 19mm. If anything that should help me out.

I'm going to go back and start trouble shooting my calipers and possible placement of the brackets on the housing. This looks like it's going from bad to worse.

Are you sure you compressed the caliper piston completely?

It's rubbing on the caliper bracket. I'm not going to have a chance to dive into it today but hopefully tomorrow I can get this thing solved.

Any chance it's an issue with the OD of the caliper rather than the thickness?

I got a chance to really look at the problem yesterday.

After some measuring and phone calls it looks like my rear housing was setup incorrectly. The rotor was cut to stock spec and matches up perfectly with the parts store rotor.

I had a feeling when Sam said this would be a first that the easy solution was not in my future.

I'm sorry to hear that. But now we have a thread here that indicates to others not paying attention that there is a bad ATE rotor around (and we know that's not the case).... .

I beg you guys to do this sort of invesigative work first before writing things that can make a good product not look so good.
