Default might purchase a v

I've been looking to buy a '02, '03 z06 until a friend suggested a cts-v I went and test drove one over the weekend and loved it! I guess my questions would be is that i have been reading that the rears are just garbage I do plan on modding what ever i get pretty heavily. Is there any thing that can be done to fix the problem without replaceing the whole diff? Any other major problems with the car? Thanks for all the input.

replacing the axles will eliminate the main problem(wheel hop), once you do that you will be set unless you are putting down massive amounts of power. click the search button or there is a sticky at the top of this thread

Make sure you search our section for answers or ask!

I love the V but you pay the price if you want to mod...

Have you driven the Z06?

What kind of mods are we talking?

yeah i really dont know that much about the v's i just started looking at them. yes i have driven a Z06 they are an awsome car I was just thinking that the V would be more practical than the Z06 if i ever wanted to go on some trips or carry anything. I have a DD so whatever I get wont be driven much. As far as mods go it just depends on what i get either way I would like around 600-700hp

Well, if your goal is 600-700HP, my suggestion would be to find a already modded V with 500+ HP. So you can IMMEDIATELY dump around around 5k+ for a bad *** rear end.

Then work on the HP.

But otherwise, you will have some major stumps with the V compared to the Z06.

BUT, if you would consider gutting the V and putting 2 race seats and plan to shave like 400LBS...You might be in the clear of some things breaking.

I would try to find a Used Supercharged V. Its' about time that they start popping up because of the 09's decrease in price.

yeah with the way the economy is and the newer models being out people are going to start getting rid of there older ones. They are a bit heavy but not to bad for a 4dr i guess and its still lighter than the camaro lol.5k+ Is that what a decent rear is going for?

5k if you are lucky, madman racing is like 7k....not many options in that department for the V. that will be your biggest hurdle with the car is putting the power safely to the ground with 600-700 or better yet 500hp. once you get the rear end done, the ls6 and t56 will hold just as much as a zo6 since its the same ****. but you dont see many 600+hp V's, cant say that about vettes they are a dime a dozen.

Total package price is $7,500. We replace the half shafts, drive shafts, beef up the cradle, and make custom subframe connectors, all to handle the 9" center chunk. If anyone would like more information, please call me at 225-673-3533.

Default Also considering a V

Have had classic trucks for many years, have had '71 C10 Chopped top/ lowered, custom interior/paint for 14 years. Looking for a more modern hotrod, at 58 and w/grandkids the V would be great and would probably have it and mod till I die. "04 or '05 is in my budget if I sell '71, any differences in the two that would lean a person to one year over the other ? Thanks in advance

only difference in 04/05 is 04 had the antenna on the back window(ugly) where the 05 came on the roof. otherwise they are identical.

What's that antenna for? Radio or nav?

i think ti has to do with the onstar, phone service, but i could be wrong. many people take it off so its prolly not something very important. maybe someone else can chime in on this.

I pulled the antenna on mine, probably gonna take the whole thing off. Bad part is that I'll have to have the tint fixed.
