Default 4L80 tune no longer *required*

A segment swap is no longer required as long as you have a 4L60 capable PCM.

I just got finished with my road test. I have a 2000 PCM running a 4L80. I did have a segment swap done, but was tired of the TCC unlocking below 5% throttle (no matter what).

Edit: I had a change of heart. I have a good bit of time in this. PM for details.

Oh BTW my converter no longer unlocks below 5% throttle.....

Also note, you will still need to move 2 pins on the Transmission (see below).

One more note....a few codes will have to be deleted. 3-2 solenoid for sure (P0785) and if you use TCC enable and not PWM P1860.

I agree with most of what was posted above. Except the only solenoid that is the same is PCS solenoid. All the other solenoids are similar but not the same and yes two of which are not used in an 80.

My question to you is when are you applying the tcc? Meaning which gear? I would only have it set up to work in 3rd in the D3 position or in OD.

Nice work BTW. Vince

Bulkpart says certain years interchange, but I really don't care. I was more worried about the logical control of it, which it is the same.

I have it setup to lockup in 3rd - locks up at a higher mph than a shift to 4th, so that it only locks up in third when in D3
and of course 4th - between 55 and 60 mph (depending on TPS)

Thanks BTW

shouldnt this work for any 4l6xE > 4l80E swap? Even the LT1 4l60E to 4l80E swaps?

If so

As long as you can delete the codes, it should work fine

I hate that TCC disengagement too. It is a pain in the *** on the highway anytime you let off the gas. I figured I could tune around it with EFIlive but hadn't gotten around to it. Is it true that you can't tune it out?

<------ Never owned a performance car with an auto, swapping to 4L80e

What is this TCC engagement?
Would my converter be a lockup style?

Supposedly there is a "lockup delay" parameter in older cals (older ODB1 PCMs) that is set to "0" (for number of seconds) to delay unlock, and it is something else for the 4L60Es. I'm not sure, since I haven't done any tuning other than with HPT. My car is SSSOOOO much nicer to cruise on the highway (and my tranny temps agree). I actually have engine braking with DFCO now.

TCC means torque converter clutch, as in locks up just like a clutch on a stick (when cruising down the highway). Yes, a 4L80E uses a lockup clutch in the converter (you don't have to, but there is no reason not to).

So your issue was it would unlock when you let your foot off the gas? And you said you remedied this in HPTuners?

Yes, that is typical of a 4L80 tune. I fixed it by making my 4L80 run on a 4L60 tune.

the 05 gto has a seperate TCM and my hp tuners will not turn off most of the codes I am getting now, this is why I am questioning if this will work with the 05,I have a 4l80 and this would be great if I did not need to use a diffrent trans controler, every time i start the car i get the tcm codes,I am currently only able to clear them.now if I could wire the factory tcm into the 4l80 that would go away...

If you can delete the 3-2 soleniod code, TCC PWM code, and trans component slipping code, it will work.

Default 4l80E swap

I'm doing a similar swap right now, I have 2000 5.3 stock pcm and tune for a silverado. Right now I haven't fired it up yet. I have an earlier style 4L80E so what all what would I need to do as far as tuning?

I have the stock 2000 silverado engine/trans wiring harness too not sure about trans connections either. My tranny has the large round connector and a single two pin connector?
