Default What shot will the stock rods start to give problems w/ forged pistons

I want to shoot a 250 shot on a stock crank, stock rod, forged piston setup but I am now second guessing the rods. I planned on having them upgraded to ARP rodbolts. Will the stock rods give up the ghost or will they take the abuse?

around 750-800 tq at the crank. IMO if you stay under 750 crank Tq you will be ok. You also need to ensure there is no detonation. Stock rods are pretty good.

You could also break that shot up or progess some of it.

the heavier piston will probably lower the durabilty of a stock rod

I planned on shooting it in 2 stages 100 then 150. It really a "right now" motor until I can get my turbo 408 motor done so I really don't want to spend too much money, but if the rods are going to be an issue I will replace them.

Ive seen them take 300 for a couple months on diamond pistons. They did 250 for 2 seasons then we upped the kit to 300 for the last month and when we tore the engine down, all the rods were bent at the wrist pin. I guess we caught it just in time.

O ya that was on a heads cam 347. I wouldnt do it personally but I had fun watching and waiting for the pistons to fly.

So I guess 250 is the limit on the stock rods with a good tune

I kinda wanted to know the same thing, but what size piston would you use because everyone i talked to said i had to use a 6.125 rod with their piston.

The rod bolts are the main culprit not the rods themselves, and of course if you want to run that big of a shot your tune better be spot on..

I'm getting ready to spray a progressed 250 shot to a 5.3 bored to 5.7 iron block. Guess we'll see.
