Question Best place to mount a tach without cage?

Been having some trouble out of my stock tach so instead of messing with it may be cheaper to buy an aftermarket. So I was wondering for those of you without cages in your cars where have you mounted your aftermarket tachs? Pics will be great!

thanks

I have seen it on the dash, off to the right of the driver and I saw a street car where it put infront of the stock tach, kinda stealth if you were casually looking.

I mounted mine where the drivers side visor used to bolt up. It fit well!

Do a search and you'll find a bunch of pictures on this subject (try gauges, dash layout, etc on search terms).

I like the A-pillar location the best. I used to have the tach mounted directly to the plastic molding on the A-pillar with the tach resting on the dash but it kept moving around, vibrating and coming loose and to me, it just looked kinda cheesy. I ended up fabricating a mount that I bolted directly to the metal part of the A-pillar.

For the A-pillar mounting side it has 1/8" steel plate with two self tapping type bolts holding it to the pillar, then it has a 5/16" steel rod bent to shape and welded to it. Then for the tach mounting side I used a steel all-thread coupler and welded that to the end of the rod. The mount is very rigid (ie doesn't vibrate at all) and now it doesn't rub on the dash at all and it's far enough from the steering wheel that I won't catch it with my fingers when turning the car.

My photo really doesn't do the visual placement much justice. It's down low enough on the dash trim to be out of my way but still within my line of sight. I'm like you, I didn't want to always have to be looking around it.

I bought mine from a member on here back in 2007. They were new & never installed. The seller needed the money for another purchase (I think it was an engagement ring), so I got a really good deal on several guages.
