317 casting heads
Forged rods and pistons
CR 8.5:1

Vic Jr Intake
Looking for around 600 rwhp.

Here are the two cams that have been suggested
Comp Cam: Grind # 3722R/3722R HR115
224 Intake 224 Exhaust @ .581 lift
LSA 115

Comp Cam: Grind # LS1 230/236 115 (texas speed)
230 Intake 236 exhasut
.591 Lift .601 lift
LS 115

For that setup, I would use an LS6 cam. I would also recommend using the LS6 intake. On your current path you will end up looking alot faster than you will actually be. The LS6 intake will give more power under the curve and much better throttle response. Coupled with the cam, it'll have excellent driveability and the tune will be very simple. It'll also be WAY more stealth.

Hmmm. Well that is another idea I could go with. I aleady have the other two cams. The first cam was one I called comp cams and told them what I had and my goals and they told me the 224 cam. The other cam was a suggestion from the guy who currently has my engine. He was saying that with the 224 cam, the 317 heads and the 8.5:1 cr, the engine will not produce the hp that I am looking for. He wants me to go with a different set of heads that will bring the compression up to 9 or 9.5 and use the texas speed cam. I am not the biggest engine tech and these two people keep arguing about what set up is better so that is why i am looking to an outside source.

Hmm well guess have to try a few combos or search a few dynos and see what people were getting.I am hoping to have about 600rwhp now with auto . I have gt7 ling cam 210/230/590/590 /121 with 1.8 rockers thats why lift is 590 or so now.
I have fast 90/NW90 intake. I have 9.5 to 1 and those afr 225 heads. I have seen similar combos to mine hit 600rwp to 650rwhp.
You are lower compression ,heads are not as good. So it might take a few more pounds to hit the numbers you want. Not sure about the intake you have picked out think they are better high up and the standard aps kits are not to great higher up the rpm band so a ls6 or fast might be better unless you upgrade the turbos.
You are running a 6.0 so that helps power from the displacement of course.
Is there a reason you are running only 8.5? Is the engine already built. If its mostly street car I would go 9.5 if you are going to run alc/meth or decent premium fuel. If you aren't or are looking to push pump gas to the moon on boost then maybe 8.5 is fine.
Remember you won't be in boost that much with a 6.0 and TT. I can cruise around town and almost never see boost. So wanted my off boost performance to be good.
Thats why picked 9.5 to 1, 3.54 gears and a cam that is nice and streetable.
So far think pretty happy with my combo.
