Trying to decide wether or not to build the tranny now and delay the blower for a minute or just dive into making alot of power and have the tranny last another year or two... Will it last long at all?

You could throw it on, but don't expect it to last long. Will probably lose it on the dyno if your getting it tuned. Plan to purchase one very soon.

1,000 hours, 100,000 miles, or 3 WOT blasts thru all the gears. Which ever comes first LOL.

Mine lasted about 2yrs but I never took it to the track. At the time it was still going strong, but I wanted to change it out for piece of mind.

A guy that works for STS runs around 600rwhp for about 40k miles now. He says he thinks that it would die if he went with better tires. The car has just over 100k on it now and is just starting to slip a little from 2nd to 3rd. Not much track time on it. Turbo is probably a little easier on drive train but don't expect it to last long either way. Once you get a good tranny then you will find the next weakest link. Then we can talk about the rear end.

A stock 4L60E is not enough for a stock LS1. A worked 4L60E is not enough for a FI LS1

i am currently running 10 psi threw a built motor and stock tranny is holding up like a champ. there are ways to make it last, just don't expect your car to hook.
i take my car to the track all the time but it spins the tires in the 1/8, i still have the stock 245 on there, and will keep them there until i get a 4l80e

one of the things i did is install a huge tranny cooler

switch to synthetic atf

increase the tranny line pressure so that the clutches do not get burned

do NOT throw on a slick tire !!!!!!!! , actually i would avoid any street radial wider then 275

my stock a4 w/ a cooler went out 3 or 4 days after i was first tuned for 8psi. No drag strip, just street driving. Do the tranny first so you can at least drive the car and enjoy it when you put the charger on.

I can't understand having a built motor with 10 psi and not putting the power to the ground. Isn't that why we build these cars.

I ran a stock a4 on my vortech setup for about 20-25k miles. I had a trans cooler and transgo shift kit on it. That helps. You can change the fluid more often too.

Of course if you drive it like you hate it all the time, that will shorten the life.

You can run that till you save enough to get a built tranny.

A 4l80e will add 100 lbs and cost ya 5 grand last I checked.

well not all of us have money falling out of our pockets, so i try to make this tranny last and when winter starts throw in a 4l80e ans some MT's on there.

making the motor last is my first priority, i could care less about the rest of the drive train. i know the best way is to start from the rear diff and work your way up to the motor, but that is not how i like to do things.

i honestly do not know, how you guys destroy the tranny so quick. mine had about 120000 miles on it when i threw in a forged motor. and i take my car to the track almost every Wednesday, well not anymore, have some issues with the wastegate and soon will be putting the car away for the winter

yea but even a built 4l60e has been known to take a dump on 600+ hp motors, and at that level they will need a rebuild pretty often, so i think the 4l80e will be a cheaper option in the long run.

i wonder the same thing.... i at least got to enjoy the car for a few days, and then it just went on me during normal driving. Never used OD, and it lost all gears but first. 60k on it...

believe me i tried to make it last, but didn't happen. These stock trannies are ticking time bombs!
