Default how do you change gear ratios?

Hey guys, sorry to bother with what is probably such an easy question. My friend has a 2001 SS Camaro, with 3.23 Gears. we would like to change them to 3.73 to help his acceleration. Problem is, we're not really sure how to go about this. If it costs money (which it most likely does), how much would it be? Thanks for the help!

On a side note. My firebird has 3.42 gears. How much is the difference between 3.42 and 3.73? I assume 3.73 is better, since it's higher, but by how much? Thanks again!

Most shops charge about 250- 550 around there, and well the gears you can order them from any sponser pretty much. usually between 150-300
