transmission slipping help?
Hey everybody, I was thinking I have a transmission problem. 1. How can I tell if my trans is slipping. 2. When im driving it shifts what seems to be more times then their are gears could that be the shift solonoids? 3. Cars a 1998 camaro v6 & I did put the transgo hd-2 shift kit in. So any advice would really help. Thanks

Whats hapening is a tuning issue not a trans issue and the shift kit you used since it more or less does away with PWM (slow apply of the converter) making it bump in after each gear change. I have noted the v6 cars do lock the converter in each gear and unlock during the shift.

My 96 A4 V6 Firebird developed the P1870 code and a trans shop here installed a Sonnax kit that took care of the problem. I don't think my converter locked up in every gear, just in 3rd and 4th. It was a 1996, though, so they might have changed the tune from 98 up.
I think the Sonnax kit eliminated PWM as well, because from then on, it made a fairly distinct "bump" when the TCC would lock up.
Out of curiosity, do you hear a "grinding" noise when in 3rd or OD and and the converter is locked up? Mine also did this pretty badly after the Sonnax kit was put in. I would be curious to know if anyone else with the auto V6 f-bodies has that grinding noise in the transmission as well.
