700R4 swap into a 00 SS???
Well Ive just about had it with my M6 setup. Ive thought about going to a 60E but dont want to deal with all of the electrical crap. So I was thinking of doing a 700R4 instead with a full manual valve body. I do have a few questions too.
1. How do I make the speedo work?
2. What style converter would work? Do I use a ls1 style converter and flexplate?
3. What crossmember do I use?
4. What year 700R4 should I look for?
5. As long as the tranny is a full manual valve body I shouldn't need the TV cable?

1. How do I make the speedo work? Later model 700's come with a VSS in the tailshaft.
2. What style converter would work? Do I use a ls1 style converter and flexplate? No the LS style converter will not work. You need the older converter syle. The LS flexplate has a 300mm bolt cirlce. The converter you need is 298mm. You can either modify the stock flexplate and add a spacer if it needs it or get a one designed for the swap.
3. What crossmember do I use? Stock one should work since they share similar dimensions but will have to get the tailshaft with the torque arm mount or move the mount to the crossmember.
4. What year 700R4 should I look for? Any 87 and later2wd is best but the newer the better. The 4x4 "K" case is stronger but harder to find and you'll have to swap output shafts and tailshafts. Make sure it's one from behind a v8 or 4.3 V6 only.
5. As long as the tranny is a full manual valve body I shouldn't need the TV cable? Depending on where you get it, no cable needed with a full manual valve body.
Don't let people fill your head with nonsense. 700's can be made plenty strong.
