Default Advance or Autozone head gaskets ok?

Well i had to pull my driverside head off to have a exhaust manifold bolt removed for the header install. Im wondering if i had to get new bolts? If so are the parts store bolt and head gaskets ok to run???

go to the dealer and get headgaskets, if i recall correctly they are only about $40. and you cannot reuse the headbolts as they are torque to yield style.

I have used the stock replacement ones from Felpro also without any issues.

+1 vote for gm. they are pretty much the best gaskets, if u plan on pushing the car some.

GM MLS are the best, pretty much never leak. A lot of folks run the Autozone gaskets and say thew work well for the price, apparently they are not always felpro either. The replacement head bolts are pretty much the same quality no matter where they come from. I would use the GM ones or spend the money for the ARP bolts. Are you going to do both heads or just the one you had fixed?

Just go to the dealer for gaskets and bolts. No brainer.

This was a site that has been passed around a lot. http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=3 The torque specs and sequence are towards the bottom of the page. Since you are just doing the one head I would get a single gm gasket so you have a better chance that it will be the same thickness as the one on the other side. Not sure how close the AZ ones are to GM gaskets.

Felpro MLS is the same exact gasket as the GM MLS. Surprisingly enough, I've found the dealer to be cheaper than some parts stores on these gaskets.

Pretty sure the GM dealer is way cheaper. I pay right at cost so i'm not 100%.

But yes, i would go to the dealer for the parts!

I'm pretty sure there is more than one dealer, so that's a tough question to answer...

Some charge list price (major $$), some will charge wholesale if you schmooze them, etc.
