Ran the final night(for me anyway) at RMR last night.My last shot at getting a coveted 9sec time slip. Again,it was bracket elims,and racing for the Ironman so the parking lot was packed and these werent no weekend racers ! As usual I was running late,making it to the track just as they called our group to the line for round one qual passes. Get the car teched,fill up the Meth,wait patiently for round 2 and hit the stage lanes.I found(last week) a slightly different technique of leaving the line which has produced some very nice 60s.
So I pull around,after watching the nutcases on 7sec bikes run,stage(next to a 10 flat 67 Mustang) and we hit it.Suprisingly,I stay right with him,all the way,even getting the win light ? Pull up to the time shack,grab my slip and HOLY CRAP ! 10.11 at 142.65,right off the trailer ! Its gonna be a good night ! :nod: Problem is,the car has not been this fast all year so I think its a fluke,now what to dial ? :confused:
I dial a VERY optimistic 10.18 for the first round,expecting to run a 35-45 and get tossed right off the bat ! Line up with a red S10 pkp dialed a sec or so slower than me( I hate that,hello red light)Make our run,I run him down nicely,and surprise,win light(very close !) :nod:
ran a 10.20 on an 18 dial. OK,now having made two new PBs for the car,and the weather is cooling nicely I am caught,what do I dial now ? Lots of breakouts,but there cant be more left,can there ? I leave it alone,dont touch a thing except to open the hood,and let it breathe a little.Dial an optimistic( and I thought unrealistic) 10.12 and pull up for our second round.I line up with our #1 class winner,the guy who never loses and know I am had already ! Thats OK,just run,cut a horrible light,car feels really good,yep he wins. :-[Grab my slip(its dark by now) get back to the pits,and yes,I was asleep at the tree ! .248 RT,hello ! but, HMMM.whats that number at the bottom ??? Looks like,I broke out ??? I ran,for my final run of this year 10.094 at 140.64 missing a 9 by .095 !!!! :burn:
So I didnt quite get my goal,I had a great time,and am slowly learning to dial the car in and run the number(d**n RTs anyway) Cant wait til next year now ! What a season !!!!!!! :nod:
