Racer's Lounge - Window Tint Ticket Question

Last night I was pulled over as the only car on the road for my tinted windows. Now I'm not one to sit here and flame cops for being useless etc. that is typical on this site, I respect the long dick of the law and believe it has its upsides.
But it was a little frustrating being pulled over in this little podunk town for my window tint. I was very respectful with the LEO (yes sir/no sir) and he let me go with a warning but with a twist. He told me quite firmly that if he pulled me over again having my windows tinted he would give me a "non-correctable" moving violation tint ticket that totals $273 instead of the $10 Fix-it. This is quite likely that he pulls me over again in this small town, especially if he turned around three blocks past me in the opposite direction just to nail me for tinted windows on a sunday night.
Obviously I respect that and one must pay to play, but can an LEO automatically write a noncorrective ticket (read: moving violation) for a offense that is correctable like tint? I assume he can do what he wants at his jurisdiction but I have never heard of such a thing.
Any advice?

Never heard of a non-correctable moving violation tint ticket. Last time I got one here in MI it was a fix-it ticket or $75 fine. Call the court and find out if he's full of sh*t or not.

whats the tint law in Cali? its 70% on the front windows in NY, which is stock tint, so basically no tint allowed, in NJ its NO tint allowed on front windows...
so what he told u is that he gave u ur "fix it" ticket this time, by letting u go, next time, u go down...

Im 99.99% sure he CANT give you a moving violation for tint. Look up the law. Every state has the penal code online these days.
Regardless, skip that podunk town. :D:D
Side note: I cant believe that the state of naturalist have such a strict tint law when it actually reduces emissions by keeping the car cooler when its parked.

^ they were talking about stop selling black cars here because black cars are more likely to use their a/c, which uses more gas, which pollutes more. Be happy you are not here.

The tint law states that there should be no tint on the driver and passenger roll ups nor tint on the windshield greater then the printed sunstrip line.
I've never really heard of it myself so I enquired...I will definitely do some research when I have time to find the bottom. As for this podunk town, I go to school here, gotta love sports!
Thanks for the help guys.

I think it's a new law, not correctable, i had about 5 tickets dropped, i'd pull the tint and my dad's dealer would sign the slip and i'd put it back on. I do it because of my eyes so i refuse to take it off. Basically the legal limit in NY is 75%, if you test a stock window (i.e., crown vic) it tests at about 77% so you can't even touch the front windows and be "legal". I now run 35% all around on all my cars and haven't had any issues, if you are running 20% or darker they'll snag ya.

That was a joke and was completely false.
Bandit, go to a DR and get an exemption note to HAVE tint on the car. Its legal if the DR says you need it.

Where did you get pulled over? In Atherton? Not like there is very much crime in Atherton. That's the place you would probably get a J-walking ticket as well. Even San Mateo County Sheriffs don't go there since there isn't anything to do.
Atherton = Highest median pricing for homes in the entire country.
Atherton = podunk? LOL!!!!!!
Going to school? You mean Stanford?

if you see a cop just let your windows down before you get pass them, i run 20% on all my cars, I just let my windows down as i go pass them or have the sunroof open as the light makes the tint look lighter

I would make damn sure that little one horse town doesn't have a local municipal code that he can cite you with. One of the reasons I will never work for a small town agency.
