The part about the LS7 or LS9 being a possibility is not old news. Personally I don't see how either of these engines can be put in this car and keep the price reasonable. I think an LS7 with a slightly lighter car would make a perfect Z28 but I doubt that will happen.

Well I think the LS7 is highly unlikely, just because the engine is not cost effective for large production, and they said the LS7 was going away soon anyways. I would appreciate a LSA but would want a LS9 not for the HP bump but for the forged internals. I think Gm dropped the ball with the LSA with no forged internals.

 that and 5 are open. hoepfully some sort of FI with forged internals. i dont NEED the LS9, something less powerful woud be alright, but the LS9 would be great :)

FBodFather already turned down the LS7 on moderncamaro.com during a debate about this quite some time ago.

The LS7 is dying off....

If the Z/28 gets the LS9, not the LSA, im going to shit myself.

A/O was talking out his ass. That whole article is BS, IMO. Make's him look like he's out of the loop on the project. It'll probably be the LSA. But, I'll note that GMPP already makes a whole conversion kit for the LS7...

Just asaying, I fall with the crowd that the Z/28 should just be the new 1LE or the Camaro version of the Mustang's "Track Pack" whereas the LSA needs to be something like the ZL1. I want to be able to afford the Z, but there's no way if they put another engine in it I'll ever have one.

But if they do just a "track Pack" Z28 it actually needs to improve the car not just be a rebadge with a bigger spoiler and "stiffer suspension". However I think GM finally wants to compete with the GT500/KR and however many other stupid mustangs variants there are. They realize the value of having a super bad ass everymans muscle car out infront.

The LS7 is already hand built, they wouldnt be able to make enough motors to satisfy demand and that will add to cost IMHO.

The Z/28, even the First Gen, has never been "better" than the SS. If optioned perfectly, a rare First Gen Z might have been a little quicker in the quarter and around the track, but a COPO 427 SS would have raped it. And, I'm of the camp that most 396 SS's would take most Z28's in the quarter. We all know the Fourth Gen Z wasn't "better" (or "worse") than the SS.

So, now why are we taking the Z/28 and making it the new ZL1? If we called it the ZL1, it would go better in line with the ZR1 nomenclature, too.

could they use the LS9 shortblock with LS3 heads and a supercharger thats smaller than the original LS9 supercharger.

That way you get the forged internals.

You lose some of the price by using LS3 heads that i'm sure they have plenty of.

The smaller blower also cuts cost but could still produce 550hp well short of the 638 of the ZR1.

I also think they should save the Z28 name for a lighter, less optioned, cheaper V8 car, and call the supercharged top dog the ZL1.
