Default 4.10's are in!!!!

For all w/M6 car & thinking bout 4.10's! I say their perfect! I was so close to going w/3.73's & Pyle bro.'s in baytown,tx. (did the install) said 3.73 wouldn't
really feel much dif. so on their word I went w/4.10's & haven't been to track
but on street It actually drives better than stock!!! It leaves smooth as butter,no luging when turning a corner in 2nd & still run's less than 2000rpm's
@70mph!!!..........Oh and I actually use 6th gear!! LOL!!

So just thought I would post this cause i must have surfed this fourm
for six mounth's before pull-n the trigger on gears for fear of wrong choice!!

4.10s make a ton of difference!
When i first installed mine i noticed immediately how it made my clutch feel more aggressive. It does not take much effort at all to be the first across an intersection.
My first pass at the track was on radials (as usual) i did spin just as bad with the 4.10s HOWEVER the acceleration was there. My buttometer did not fail i was 4 tenths and 2mph quicker on the timeslip. Dragradials i went .45 faster then my clutch exploded...well worth it!
Now i finally have wear marks on 6th gear

Man i would like to make a few passes at HRP i miss that track... sea-level FTW!

just take it easy and dont put drag radials on and it should hold up. i cant wait to get my 8.8 and 4.10s in, it already blows the tires off 1st through 3rd with 3.42s so i cant imagine what itll do with the 4.10s.. i better get a tire hookup quickly LOL.

I'm no expert but when doing research on my gear choice I read as horsepower goes over 450-500 rwhp gearing should drop off to like 3.70-3.55................I didn't have that prob.!! LOL!!!!

4.10's are a good mod, I personally would not do it in a 10 bolt but either way, your clutch will actually last longer and you can get doing quicker w/o riding it out.

I spin about 2500 driving 75 on the free way and I am used to it now. Even with a cam and crap part throttle tune, I do can do 40-45 in 6th in town if needed. on a 228/230 cam.

I like threads like this. Makes me want 4.10's even more although I'm getting a whole upgraded rear end. Just don't know when to pull the trigger!

I have 4.11's in my 9". Also had them in the 10 bolt.
2000 RPM in 6th gears gets you 72MPH on the highway.

I have noticed a decrease in MPG's but they can be attributed to the larger cam, the heavier 9" gears or even the ratio. Right now I can get 13 MPG city/20 MPG highway.

When the temps outside are above 80 or so, my rather new 285/40/17 Firehawks friggin bite hard if I dont dump the clutch. Just smoothly pulling out from a stop and nailing, the tires will spin for a split second.

Now that the temps are around 60, they spin like crazy in 1st and a bit more in 2nd gear.

The key thing to having 4.10's and the M6 is to have some good street tires or all you will do is spin the tires. I never broke my 4.10's in the 10 bolt, but I never ran stickies either.

How exactly do they make the clutch last longer? Also as for the stock 10 bolt, if your on a street tire and dont go drag racing every weekend is there a reason it wont last long?

With 4.10's you do not lug, or stress out the clutch if you quick release on the street, nor will you have to hurt the clutch slipping it up.

Gears, be it in the trans or in the rear gives you what is call Torque Multiplication and the more power to the road, the easier it is to move your 3800lbs or so monster and the best part is your not stressing out the parts.

As for the 10 bolt. I have seen a stock car on the street spit out gears on one good power shift. So it does not matter the situation, just don't be a monster.
