Default Help with belt tensioner

I have an 04 V with a Magnuson supercharger. The belt tensioner broke and according to the local parts store computers, the tensioner I have on my car is not the stock tensioner. Anyone know if a different tensioner is used with the magnuson kit, and if so, do you know what it comes on from the factory? this thing looks like a typical GM belt tensioner.
Thanks,
Bucky

Can you find a part number on it somewhere?

i found a part number, but it doesn't cross reference to anything I can find(doesn't really look like a gm part number). I found a tensioner at the parts store, but the stud on back is clocked 180 degrees out. It has to be a stock GM tensioner. I know magnuson didn't make a new one for their kit. 3154162 is the only number I can find on it.
I'm on magnuson's website now trying to find it. Thanks for the help.

the dayco 89202 is the closest i have found on the net. only difference is this one has a smooth pulley, and the one i have has a 6 groove pulley. cant tell what the back looks like, may have the stud clocked(in wrong position) wrong.

Default Belt Tensioner

You need to contact East Coast Supercharging in Cream Ridge NJ or go to their web sit, eastcoastsupercharging.com. They have made a special heavy duty tensioner for exactly your problem.

thanks for the help, but it looks like a stock tensioner with a 8 groove pulley and some sleeves to position the stock tensioner out some. I'll just buy a manual tensioner for 50 bucks before i do that.

the part number needed is 89222. it is made by dayco and is the exact same that comes with the magnuson kit. You can buy it at Advance Auto Parts for about $56.00. Magnuson wanted almost $200 for it plus shipping. It took a lot of searching, but I found it and now it's documented if anyone else ever needs one. The pulley is different on the tensioner, but they have the correct pulley too.

When I came back from Sumit Pointe this is what I noticed

So I called up Magnessuen and I dont remember who I spoke to but he said that I could use the tensioner that comes in the maggie kit for the Vettes. It provides a lot more tension and should keep the belt from riding up. Part is Dayco No Slack Automatic Belt Tensioner Part #38131. I paid about $90.00 including shipping. You could get it at any auto store for a lot less and its a direct fit no modification necessary.

SIDE BY SIDE COMPARASION

my belt looked just like that a minute ago. I drove it yesterday with no problems and no squeaks. went out there today to get in, and the damn belt was 1/2 off, thought maybe I missed a groove. put the belt back on, and now it is squeaking like hell. It was squeaking before the tensioner broke. I think I might have another problem which is causing the squeaking and tensioner alignment. I'll keep you posted.

When you say it helps belt ride-up, are you talking belt slip? Or is that different?

You might take the belt off and grab each pully/idler and see if there is any play in it.

I checked the pulleys briefly, but did not find any problems. I guess I'm gonna mess with it more when I feel like it.

Raven had the same thing happen and it was the tensioner. If I remember right he said the bearing froze and the bearing kind of wallered around and became out of alignment.

Yeah on the tensioner pulley the tolerance between the bearing and pulley was to great which cause the bearing to spin in the pulley and wallered the hole out and I was throwing belts until I got that fixed. After that I shredded one more belt but I think that was just a fluke because I never had another problem after that.

I have a new tensioner and new bearing. It threw it again today. I raised hell yesterday 100mph, no problems. today normal driving, the belt came off. I looked like the tensioner pulley was misaligned. I took the bolt out and put it back in, and now it looks aligned, but I'm not to sure. It has to be something simple, but haven't found it yet.
