What are the benefits of having a MAf sensor ported and descreened? pros/cons?

Not worth it imo. You can do more harm than good for little to no extra gains.

agreed. the screen doesnt do that much as far as robbing power, but it does keep the flow straight so the MAF gets an accurate reading... also if you port it, you have more air going in than what it reads making it difficult to tune the car. in short... leave it alone.

The advantage (in theory) is that it makes the stock tune a little lean, thus making more power. If you have good working O2 sensors they could possibly correct for such error maybe even over correct.

As a test I ran my car with and without the stock unmolested MAF at the track, both ways with the MAF disabled and SD tuned. The difference in just having the MAF in the intake tract was absolutely nothing. No gain or loss either way. And my car is super consistant, I probably made 10 passes and didn't vary more than 1 tenth. High 12.5s, low 12.6s pretty much identical time as a few weeks before when I was running with the MAF enabled.

So at the bolt on level messing with the MAF is worthless. Just leave it alone until it either goes bad or you have enough motor to make it a restriction. And at that point just trash it and go SD.

my car had an aftermarket MAF when i bought it. descreened it, and the SES light poped on. i ruined the screen when taking it out so i couldnt put it back on. not doin that again. that mistake cost me $150!
