Default Critique my new set up i want opinions

So im doing a n/a forged 370 from hke with a 228r cam from texas speed and im not sure what heads to use. I have a stock set of 243 heads but i was thinking either prc 2.5 5.3l, prc 2.5 ls6, or stock ls6 into i save for some afr or trickflow heads. Im not lookin for an all out build just a good street engine with decent gas milege and be able to daily drive it, also looking for mid to low 11s. I defintly dont have the budget for the afr or trickflow heads right now probebly wont have it for another year or so. Out of the other 3 what would you guys choose and why? Oh and how does the rest of it sound ive been back and forth on what i wanted to do and i just about decided. Thanks

Why not just run with your stock heads and dont waste money on heads you really dont want to buy? Save up the coin and buy heads once not twice, you wont recoup enough to make it worth it on a set of ported OEM heads.

I dunno what your goal is for the car or why you chose a 228R as a cam, but with a forged 370ci, there are better choices out there. If you haven't purchased the cam yet, TSP has a new 229 cam that would be better suited.

As for heads, it all depends on your budget and again your goal. You could sell your 243s for $450 easy, put that towards ported ones.
Or get a professional shop to CNC and do a good valve job on the 243s you have. With the range cam you have in mind that will be plenty head to have a strong combo.

I wanted to use the 228 cam because of the driveibilty of it and i didnt want a very choppy idle i havent seen the 229 cam that would work better for a 370? The main reason i choose a 370 is because it was cheaper then a forged 347 and i would like to do a 408 when funds allow for it and i have another car to drive. But my goals for the car know would be to get it in the mid to low 11s and make 400+rwhp in my 02 ta a4. Maybe if i have the heads milled to bump the compression and then have them touched up that may work for now?

Oh and my budget is $6600 could be more if i sell the 243 heads

Keep the heads, use them.. you power goals aren't so much that you wont be far off with what you have (people make 400+ cam only with a 346) and a 370 or just get the 408, all your talking about is the cost of a crank. I have a deal on an HKE 408 right now that is too good to pass as well and with your current heads and an HKE custom cam your where you want to be. Well within your budget. Save the extra 1200 or so your going to need for thew TFS 235's and you will be much happier down the road.

You would have $2300 left over from your $6600... Custom cam for 400, lifter upgrade and maybe a trunion rebuild on your stock rockers and your good to go with 1000 left over to save for the TFS 235's.
