The Red Rocket is starting to get done.Sold the old motor complete.Next plan is to clean up the engine bay and have it painted. Then the motor will go in.

Motor so far is a 427ci C5R block with Dragonslayer crank,Compstar rods and Wiesco pistons. All built by Shawn at Virginia Speed. The top end is a set of ETP 225 heads which Rich at WCCH has been working on for a few months. They got 2.125" intake valves and 1.57" exhaust. From what I've heard they are about 230-235cc not and flow 360-370cfm at just under .650lift which is better than what they were.Compression will be 11.8-1,Cam is a custom near 250 duration and the intake so far will be a Edelbrok Victor Junior(ported) with an Intake Elbow at 102mm.

Tranny-I'm planning to send my level 5 FLT tranny back to get hardened shafts and a look over, the converter is going to Yank to have it tightened up(now SS4000).

The fuel system will get a new intank pump, hot wire kit and 60lb injectors.

So,thats my plan that everybody keeps asking for. The car is still planned to be my daily driver like it always has been. The goal is to hit ATCO this winter and get some stupidly fast timeslip and hopefully just detune it to run the 10.5 class next year.(don't want a 10 point in my DD car)

Awesome Don,
I knew you wouldn't be satisfied with an 11.5 car for long . (Is this a brandy new block or are you touching up one lying around?)

Should be a pretty slick setup I wouldn't be surprised if you were running high 9's with it if you were pushing it. But having a super streetable 10.5 N/A car will be awesome. The specs on those heads look pretty damn sweet too. Keep us posted.

If intentions change with the Yank converter let me know!

I got the basic midwest 9 with short torque arm,LCA,PH and track bar.Stock shocks/springs and they are not getting touched.Car hooks easy 1.52's,even on 17" Nitto's. I might do a K-member to cut some weight.

Don't want this car to ride like a race car.Right now it's nice.

Do the k member and a arms. trust me. even if its not for weight reduction it makes the car run cool, easy to work on, easy to mess with headers, easy to do anything!! trust me on that, its one of the best mods in a car if you have the coin to do it. it doesnt do much for performance or what not, but a great mod.

my car has stock springs still so they wont hold you back

Hydrolic roller at .630 lift or so.It will have a 6800rpm rev limiter.Probly stock rockers -after I check the angle's to verify. No crazy spring pressure's.

This is mostly built for the street.

I ran stock rockers all the way till i went solid roller. and when i say stock, i mean the same ones from when the car was new. so they had 30,000 street miles then everything else. i ran them with a .600+ cam with no issues and spun it over 7k. never broke a rocker till i did the cheep harland sharps which i broke 5 of them so far!!! they are cracking in the shafts. spoke to a few others who have the same problem and replace them with jessle or t+d and issue is all gone.
im spinning the solid to 8,300 tho..

i would sugest moral lifters tho as i said, mine had an issue with the comp ones with the .600+ cam did another motor with .600 plus with morals and no issue.
have 2 street cars running now with .60x cams with stock lifters spinning 6500-7,000 with no issues. comp ones just didnt work after 7,000

I agree. Harlands are, well, pretty much junk.Luckilly I have my hands in alot of motors throughout the years. Morels fail too. Alot of cars rev to 7000rpm but alot are floating then too, expecially with an aftermarket-heavier-rocker.My old dynojet wouldn't pick it up but the new load dyno does. The problem with stock rockers is that they can side load the valves which wears down the guides.Alot of times you have to shim up the stock rockers to get rid of the problem.Within the last year we've pulled a few heads that the guides were gone.Such heads as AFR and TFS will show this problem, the main reason TFS recommends a roller rocker.

very true, i had mine shimmed on my 346 and my 402 as well as my lsx befor it was solid. i forget now how much i had to shim them. i wanna say it was 30 tho, but i forget now.

Only thing I don't like about the 4150 is that there is no way to put on a decent filter and you lose the windshield wipers. Here are some pics with the 90.My plan is to have a bigger 90 made for more volume and to fit the 105mm TB.

that looks very nice. how much do you think the elbow will hold you back? i've been back and forth over which way to go and like you said i'm not into losing the wipers. any details on the elbow and mods to the hood?

Krazy98Z28
11-29-2009, 09:40 PM
Well we found out it depends on what elbow you use, we had a edlebrock elbow on my motor at first, we switched to the aarons elbow and gained 90 RWHP. I think the setup I had I wouldn't have gained much more with the 4150 style TB. It was good enough to run 10.20s in a 3250lb car

well i'm looking to run either a vic jr or super vic. i'm under the impression that the super vic is more of what i need(rpm range). my original plan was to run it with a top mount but like you already said wipers and a decent air filter as big issues. after seeing the pics of the super on your car i'm thinking that and a good elbow will be my best best. what kind of clearancing did you have to do to the hood? is the elbow a custom deal from Aarons or a shelf model? your build came at a perfect time for me. seeing it done makes it easier for me:)

Looks like the hood will have to cut through the top.Won't really know till we are ready for the hood.Mind you I have a stock(flat) hood.It would clear no problem with a ram air hood(with cutting the bottom out)

That elbow is off the shelf but the new one will be alittle custom.

It was on the dyno for break in. Made a few pulls and didn't like the power curve. It was going to peak at 8k rpm which was to high for me.So,new Cam coming which should bring the peak way down.Should idle nice on a 110LSA and installed at 106LSA:D
