What all materials can be chromed/black chromed?

What all materials can be chromed/black chromed? This is actually a question for an Acura TL project that I'd like to work on in the future, but I'm trying to figure out which materials can be black chromed?
I feel confident you can take any wheel or other metal object and have it black chromed, but how about hard plastics? If you can't black chrome a piece of hard plastic straight away, could you first coat it with something and then dip it?
Thanks a lot! My future project is a silver '07-08 Acura TL and basically black chrome all of the pieces that come chromed so it has a nice contrast against the lighter colored paint, including some aftermarket wheels.
