Default So what's better for drag, IRS or solid?

I have been trying to find a straight answer on this, for drag purposes, what's better, a solid rear or IRS?

solid rear, the 03/04 cobra owners are going to a solid rear to go faster, IRS just cannot support ALOT of HP. u can upgrade the IRS but truthfully it's alot less expensive to go to a solid axle. just look at what top fuel guys use, solid axle. but of course they are putting out 6,000 HP

Is there any difference at more realistic power ranges?

IRS does hook up, I have a friend that had the fastest 03 Cobra (with stock IRS) on F1's in the country. It's when the 03's just came out, he ran a 11.4? with like a 1.8? 60ft. the IRS is a very nice setup, rides nice, handles better but IMO overall if u want a drag racing rear end then u should go with a solid axle. If u don't hook with a IRS u'll probably get wheel hop. I was at the Buick vs. Ford Shootout in Noble, OK a couple of months ago and I seen at least 2 03 cobras break one of thier half shafts because they got wheel hop so bad. I also seen 2 03 cobras hook like a **** with stock IRS. like I said, IMO, solid axle is the way to go for a strip/street car.

yup lots of guys pulling 1.8 on F1 tires in their manuals. try to find a dang GM to do that? BUT saying that, also look to teh C5 guys (esp the run of all these 10.9 and lower head and cam guys). IRS. but for drag racing in our cars, no doubt Solid rear is the way to go.
