Alternator Support Bracket On LS1's....Needed?

Default Alternator Support Bracket On LS1's....Needed?

Well, I think my alternator is on the fritz and it's due time for a new one. Well I have a spare 145 amp alternator out of an 04' Avalanche that will work fine once I rewire the exciter wire (already did this when I pulled the 5.3 out of my truck and went to the LS1).

What I'm wondering is if the bracket on the back of the LS1 alternators that connects to the side of the block is needed? The truck alternator does not have the provisions for this to be bolted to it and I'd have to run with the two that bolts to the face of the block.

I'd assume that GM wouldn't put anything on there that wasn't needed.....but...when have they done that before

Not sure if it is needed or not, but when I swapped to a 200 amp alternator, it came in a different case that wouldn't accept the rear support bracket (probably the same case you are looking at). I took it off, bolted the new alternator in, and haven't looked back since.

Thanks man for the reply. Do you notice any kind of problems of any sort? Belt walk or unusual wear of the belt?

When I installed my Powermaster 200 amp alternator, I couldn't use the rear bracket either.
Everything worked fine, no problems!

Negative, and it has been wound out to 6700 RPMs MANY times at this point.

Can you explain how you did this? I have a 140 amp Alt out of a truck that I need to wire to use in my swap application. I need to wire the exciter wire
