Post How will my LS1 perform in such cool temps?

I am taking my 98 LS1 TA to the track this weekend for the first time for a Pontiac show. I live in Kansas and the forcast calls for a temp of 42. How will my car handle this? Is that just right? It it too cold? If so what problems should I look out for? Like I said this is the first time on the strip with this car. I have driven in cold weather before but not running as hard as I plan to at the track. Just looking for some advice from a voice of experience.

THANKS EVERYONE!

It'll depend on traction because tires don't stick to cold tracks, but if you can get it to hook, she'll run like a raped date.

Be gentle on the 10 bolt if it's an M6 car.

well then it's a 50/50 chance then because i think it's supposed to be wet too. i dont really have a great set of treads to put on it either. and dont worry i wont push it TOO hard because the thought of the 10 bolt or the tranny goin makes me want to . we will see how it goes.

I would not worry about setting the world on fire. Just enjoy yourself and take time watching the crew work the cars up, set them up, and see how they trip the lights. Getting a good grip on that will help shake the nerves off before you run.

Cooler air = faster times until the pavement gets too cold and you spin, but that point will very greatly among all cars due to different drivetrain, HP, suspension, and tire combos as well as driving ability and the ability of his spotter (if he has one).

Thanks man...I like that advice. That is kinda how I planned on doing it. First time on the track with this car...I am just going to enjoy it and be nice to the car. It is an all pontiac show so I will also get to enjoy alot of other beautiful machines so other than being a little to cold for my comfort, I think it will be a good time.
Thanks guys.

Well...it was fun! lol but it was a bit of a disaster. Between the cold temps, bad tires, and not having 4th gear during the majority of the runs, it was just bad. Couldn't get under 14 with a car that should be under 13. It's all good though, I have a major performance make-over planned for it this winter when I have the money to do it so when it warms up I will be ready.

As long as you have a good time and still drive it home, you did good.

By the sound of it you got bit by the bug. That's good! Every winter i make a list of stuff to do to get ready for next "season".
