I have a 98 Trans am a4. I would like to to atleast get a cam and LS6 intake. Heads would be nice.i know whp depends on many factors.Such as what cam and other bolt ons. But how of a difference would stock 243's over stock 98 heads make. would it be a huge difference or just 15 hp or so?

Do you have an aftermarket torque converter? That should be #1 on any A4's list, before any other major mods.

With a ls6 intake/cam the LS6 heads would make a lot bigger difference than 10-20, It would be more like 30-40rwhp with .040 gaskets.

I have an A4 on my C5 the first thing to go on was a vigi 3400 before anything else. After you mount a stall converter the world is yours. Also take into consideration how tight you want her to be. The 3400 is tight but I like it for a DD.

i was thinking of getting a stall . The car wont be a DD. just something i drive here and there. i guess i ill look into the stall first. thanks for the info

the yanks run a little looser than the others.If it's not going to be a dd,then i would go with a yank. It maximizes the stall better.
I know a few that run the Yank as a dd. They like them.

is swapping the 241 heads with 243 heads simple? just unbolt the old, and rebolt the new? ona bolt on car it would proly yeild what, 15wph? thats nice if you can go pull em off a car int he junkyard

Usually it's the other way around...

My Yank SS3600 is a very tight converter, almost feels like stock. I let a friend of mine drive my car and he said his TCI 3000 was a lot looser than the Yank.

Yep, take off old and put on the 243's with the headgaskets and bolts.

Might want to research more though, I cant remember if you have the use the LS6 coolant cross over pipes or not.

the heads are a direct swap assuming you have a 2000 and up motor. 98-99 had the older style head where the valve covers bolted up differently.

they will bolt to any ls motor, from a 4.8 to a 6.0.
will need to use centerbolt valve covers.

Yank SS series is TIGHTER than most convertors because of bigger STR.

243's along with a LS6 IM swap should see a easy 25 HP gain or slightly more...

The dif between my vig and a friends yank is night and day.Mine is alot tighter than his ss3600.

I have to agree with SOM here. Yanks SS line is known for their tightness around town. Rear gear selection can play a huge role in how loose or tight a converter feels. Vigs are generally known to be a tad on the loose side and tend to be under-rated on advertised stall speed. Both are great converters BTW.
