Default My tire got screwed..

Pulled into the driveway after some cruising, and a screw fell out of my front tire. I plugged it with one of those rubber strip plug kits. I'm guessing i'm going to need new front tires now? They're 275/40/17 ..

Can anyone recommend me some good, cheap performance tires? Unless I can still run on these.. (which I doubt)

I have nexen n3000's on the front, you can find em online for around $90 ea for a 275/40/17 or around $80 for a 255/40/17, Im running the 255's

If the screw was in the tread of the tire, there's no reason the plug won't hold for the life of the tire.

Yeah, if the screw is in the treads and not in the sidewall you can plug it. I would recommend having the tire removed and adding a vulcanized patch on the inside as well though. I'll add Kumho Ecsta SPT as another cheap but very impressive tire for the money. Decent grip dry and excellent wet.

Thanks guys. Yep, the hole was in the tread. DEAD in the middle of the tread. We used one of those rubber plug kits from (lol) walmart. What you do is take a long piece of rubber, cover it with "rubber cement," then use a tool to shove it in, completely filling the hole. Then I can either, cut off the excess, burn it, or let the road wear it down.

So you guys think it'd be safe just to roll like this? I don't wanna be doing like 110 somewhere (ocean parkway ) and blow the tire.

i hate three holes in one tire a front tire at that and it lasted me about 30 100 mile trips and i dont think my car ever saw under 90 or 100 except for going through toll booths. I-95. they should hold good if it was done right.

I guess I'll get it plugged/patched correctly once I get my wheels mounted/balanced.

i would just go to a good tire shop and have it pluged the right way it souldent cost more than 20

I thought pluggin' tires were frowned upon and that patching is the way to go? Being that by pluggin', you are opening up the hole and patching seems to me you would be sealing it more effectively.

Tire shops are going to do the exact same thing he did, except charge $20 for the same plug.

98 WS6, you said it was in the middle of the tread. If it's holding air and not leaking down, consider it fixed and don't worry about it. Many tire shops don't even do internal patches anymore because they're more likely to fail than a plug. I've plugged many tires over the years and if it was in a tread block, I've never had a problem for the life of the tire.

Now, if you routinely drive on the autobahn at triple digit speeds for hours on end, you may want to replace the tire. But if you drive in the U.S. and rarely see over 100, and when you do it's for only a few seconds or minutes at a time, don't worry about it.

Sweet, thanks dude. That was the kind of answer I was hoping for. Amd you're right, I got the new wheels mounted today, and the shop only did plugs, no internal patches. Seems to be holding up fine, thank goodness.

Ironically, (whoever said this) the front tires ARE Fuzion ZR1's
