Default oil pump pickup o ring

this has prob been beaten to death, and i did a search, but im installing my stroker, and i use a caddy cts pan/pickup-i noticed i orig used the blue o ring, but wanted to install a new one in the new motor-i had a couple left over from i guess when i bought a pump or something, but no more blue ones
there was a black one, and a red one-the black one seemed to be wider, but the red one was the same id but larger-i lubed it up, and it fit with just a minor tap-i rem it, seemed to be ok, so i was gonna use it, nice tight fit
is the red one ok where the blue one was orig called for-seems when i built the prev engine, some research took me to the blue one, which worked ok

i would replace it with what came out of it. if not, you could end up with oil pressure issues.

Just went thru this yesterday, w/ my 6.0.[2005 Hummer engine.]
The # I had was 12557752. [Blu]
The number shown in the parts page is 12584922. [Red]
The dimensional differences are very obvious. No way would the blu ring fit the 6.0 pump/tube. It's considerably larger.
Forcing it, would surely wad it up, creating a problem.
The parts man looked up the application for the blu ring. He stated that it was for 97-07 Vettes, f-bodies, and 08 up 6.2, 6.0..etc.

My advice...Same as XL's. Go by the parts book.[AKA: "RTFB"]

Question A ??

What's the preferred method of installing the ring? On the tube first, or in the bore, and slide the tube til it bottoms?
I notice that the tube actually goes past the bottom of the bore, and has a groove for the ring to seat in.
On the 6.0 I have, I can still see the ring at the top of the bore, when all is bolted up...Problem or not?
