Clutch engages right off the floor? hard to take off in 1st, need shim?

Clutch engages right off the floor? hard to take off in 1st, need shim? OK I have done a little searching on here and read the sticky on does my clutch need to be shimmed: https://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-tr...need-shim.html
but it does not say about where clutch engages just that it can prematurely where the clutch out. I bought my SS a couple months ago(3rd owner) and the previous owner did not change the clutch but the original owner did and has no idea what brand was put in. The clutch lets out instantly after it's off the floor and is fully engaged by about half way through the movement. Everybody who drives my car has noticed it's very tough to take off in 1st or reverse because of this issue. A mechanic I talked to said it might need to be shimmed. Is this what I should try or anybody have any other ideas? Other than this the clutch feels fine and doesn't slip.

If the pedal is consistently on the floor, meaning that the engagement point doesn't change after pumping the pedal, then it is possible that you need a shim. Of course you can also have issue qith release and low pedal with a miss-adjusted/hung self-adjusting pressure-plate. You can pull the trans and check the parts out, posting pics here, and I will be happy to help you further.
If the pedal is inconsistent then I suggest checking the fluid in the reservoir. If it is darl or cloudy then you need to flush and refill the system and proceed from there. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks!

It consistently always engages from the floor even if I pump it, the pedal moves smooth and never hangs up just the clutch engages way at the bottom

Following Install University's guide he separated the TO bearing and slave and put shims in between them from mcleoad, this is different than what I am doing right? his shims look WAY different than SLP's

I have the same problem with mine, have now gotten use to it...good for drags as the clutch is right in and it engages instantly i release it lol
Still feels very strange though when releasing under normal driving

Yes, the shim goes behind the slave cylinder. You unbolt it, put the shim in place and then bolt it back in place. It is very easy to do but if you have any questions let me know. Thanks,
