Default Noob Question

I have been trying to figure somethings out before I do an LT1 swap on my 96 Camaro. Are the 6spd trannys the same from 96-02?

And yes i know a v6 to v8 swap is a lot of work and i know what i need to do it. So please dont advise against it since I'm already set on doing it.

ummmm what are you putting in the car, motor-wise?
93-97 will not work with 98-02, without spending a good hunk of cash.

I did the v8 swap in my v6. Not hard at all. GM made the provisions for all the v8 parts to work in either car. Good luck with the swap. You need the transmission that goes with the engine, ie early T56 for a LT1 or the 98 and later for LSx.

Ok, I wasnt to sure if the LT1 used a different tranny than the LS1. Im curious to why an LT1 could not use the LS1 T-56. Anyone?

The bellhousing, input shaft and throwout bearing are different. The spacing is different from the back of the engine to the crank flange by about 0.400".

93's are different. There are 2 different 93 T56's, and they are both geared differently than the 94-97 trannies. They are also rated at less HP, and they don't have CAGS. Get a 94-97 T56.

If putting a LT1 motor in, you need a "LT" T56. Use teh 94-97 LT T56.

Now, you can pick up a '98-'02 "LS" T56, and convert it over to "LT" style if you want.
