Default Is this a fair price to paint a car?

B4 I order my Camaro I am looking into how much to 2 tone it right away. The ground effects would be the same color as the top. Mid section of the car would be a factory color. The first estimate I got to paint and install the ground effects and paint the top 1/4 - 1/3 of the car is $7000 with tx. We are taxed at 10% so that would be around $6400. I thought that is was high, but it is a quality shop.

What do you guys think?

the majority of the cost incurred is usually in prep work. Since it will be a new car and there will need to be no body work, prep work would be minimal. They would still have to do the usual stuff, such as sand and what not. BUT that price is way too high. you can get a quality, full car paint job for that price.

sounds fair

if its a quality shop

ask for the ticket(price) on the material

and make sure they put the actualy labor hours in
its expensive but with paint you pay for quality

Seems way to high. I would shop around and compare. Since it's new I would not be bargain shopping, but I wouldn't be sold on the first one.

That seems very high for just a two tone job! I paid 4000 CAD to completely paint my 01 Silverado EC, complete with racing stripes.

What standard are they painting to? Using what type of paint?
Masking, or taking the windows out? Painted stripes? Inside the upper doors/hood/trunk?
As documented on camaro5, a friend of mine had his SS repainted FULLY in Sunshine Pearl Yellow 3-stage paint...the PAINT was $3,000...in the CANS...from "House of Colors".
Painting the GFX is typically $4-700 alone, plus 3-hour install, or 10% of your quote. If they're a "1st class shop", they'll pull the glass/trim, redo the engine compartment/hood-trunk undersides, inside the upper doors, buff the colour AND the clear. ALL that takes TIME...which = $$$$$.
The quote is ALL about what level of standards the FINISHED product will be. Earl Sheib has one standard, some guys are 'WAY beyond that...
A GM Show Car-standards one-colour repaint runs $15-20,000, with EVERYTHING top-side done to "perfection", including fixing all the Factory gaffs, and perfect gaps...
We await a "Junior"-clone repaint, done to GM Show Car standards, that's over $20,000 for paint alone...
Get in writing, clearly stated, EXACTLY what they'll do. $7,000 MAY be a "deal"...but get it in writing FIRST. That way, there should be NO surprizes...

PowerPro is right on the money. If they are going to do the job the right way,use the best materials and stand behind their work the price is in the ballpark.

I thought that it was a little high but they are doing it right. They are taking off the hood, front fenders, front clip, and trunk lid. They have it all broken down for me in hrs of what they are doing. It is a higher end shop and they know that I will show the car when I am done with it. I am going to get another estimate if I can but in the area I live in there are not many people that I would trust my stuff with. There is a cadillac dealer 2hrs away that painted my escalade and did a great job on it but they are not chev dealers so I could not order my car from them.

Thanks for the comments
