NOT!

Broke a retainer on one of my Crane 10308 dual springs (I guess shifting at almost 7000 rpms will do that). It broke in such a way that the outer spring was doing nothing and the inner spring was still holding up the valve (thank god). And the fact that they are dual springs makes using my Crane valve spring compressor useless and the cheap Autozone valve spring compressor is pure shit. But I eventually got the broken retainer off and replace the spring with a brand new Comp 918 spring with matching seat, retainer, locks and a new valve seal. Also change the oil to make sure no metal shavings were left in the engine. Problem solved...:chug:

Picture: Right is an intact retainer, left is two of three peices thr retainer broke into.

My right hand man LQ Chevyboy FTW!

I mispoke, I meant because the Crane 10308 dual valves springs outside diameter is so large, it made my Crane valve spring compressor tool useless. For beehive springs or regular sized dual springs like PRC or Patriot, the Crane valve spring compressor is the bomb.

I heard a ticking noise coming from the drivers side of the motor. Popped off the valve cover and bingo, problem found.

did you find the 3rd piece? that sucks man.... i don't really think 7k is that much rpm, and i don't know what would suddenly cause a failure like that? hm... speaking about that crane tool, i need to swap out all of my pac 1518s probably next friday. can i rent it from you for a day or two? im so scared of that damn autozone tool haha

Yeah, I found it. I also rubbed the whole area with a magnet to pic up any residual metal shavings.

The tool I have is meant for a LS1, not a LT1. They make one for a LT1, just haven't bought it yet. I had to remove a head bolt to get the tool to work, which I don't recommend, but I had no choice. Pic one up for a LT1 and your set, it's a great tool. That Autozone tool isn't worth the paper it's packaged in.
