Default Painting the center console lid?

I had to replace my center console lid because the rubber top of it broke off the plastic under it and just fell apart. So I went to a junkyard and found a replacement from another camaro but it was very dirty and greyed out. I cleaned the **** out of it but when I dried it it still was very gray compared to the rest of the interior.

I have flat black and metallic black paint that I was gonna spray it with, but then got to thinking about the rubber material. Can I paint the lid with that rubber material or will it completely destroy it or crack it or something?

The paint will eventually crack. Go to a fabric store and get a piece of thin leather or pleather and some headliner spray glue. Take the armrest apart which is very simple, paint the grey push button black, then re-attach the armrest to the plastic and you will be much happier.

i just checked out redlinegoods covers and they still say you might want to get it professionally done, so I dont see a point paying for it and shipping to just take it to a shop to get it done.

Well, there are a countless number of guys on this site who have done it, and I should have mine sometime this week and I'll let you know how I make out.

Well, I got my covers today, and if you can put a bedsheet on, you can install the cover. I went the extra mile and use an adhesive under it, and screwed it in under the bracket, but still, it's easy to do. I'll post pics as soon as I can.

that looks very nice. I would go all black because nothing else is red in my interior. what exactly did you do to get it laid down and on and everything?

Ever make a bed, and put on the fitted sheet over the mattress, same premise here. I went the extra step and removed the 6 bolts on the underside that has the plastic peice and pull the cover tight and re-installed the plastic. It really is quite simple.

I went with the red piping because it's Phase 1 if you will. I plan to get new floormats with a red border and then have my headrests ebroidered with a red pheonix. I'm still not 100% sold on the steering wheel cover. Oh, I also have red led's replacing all of my interior lights. Plus all of the factory lights and gauges, radio, hvac are red from the factory.

sounds pretty simple, how much did the cover cost if you dont mind me asking. and does it stick down by itself or do you have to use adhesive?

I bought all three, but just the cover is ~30-50 depending on what options you get. I paid more to have the piping done. You don't need to glue it down, but I did the edges just to get it to hold tight.
