Have not seen this on TA's yet, but a bunch of us LT1 Camaro's have done it to ours. I took the plastic insert out, drilled small holes where all the dimples were, and cut out as much plastic behind the inserts as I could leaving only the mounting points for the inserts. The engine heat comes out when I stop and cold air goes in when I move. The only thing you need to worry about is rain since yours face up and backwards.

Yeah those would be PERFECT rain channels, to go straight into your engine lol. I'd trying searching eBay for covers or something. Maybe someone will chime in with something they fabbed up.

Leave them alone or get a ram air hood.

Water likes to sit right on top of those inserts. I wouldnt want water going down into anything vital. Just sayin'.

do what WFC97 said and then put a sealed plastic plate behind it - that way it will look functional but still keep water out...

it wouldn't hurt the opti at all if you did it. the opti is like a foot back from those vents and if water went down them if would hit the upper radiator support and drain forward.
