Hey, i just bought an OEM ws6 hood for my 1999 firebird trans am, and i was wondering if i would need new hood struts for the new hood or can i just keep the ones i have?

I just took one of the struts off mine when I went to a WS6 hood on my last TA.

They're the same part numbers for all hoods.

actually i think he is saying he is afraid that the struts are too powerful for the hood in which case the fact his are old is a good thing. i remember having this discussion with injuneer when i got my ws6 hood in early 2008 and he said he had been running his stock non ws6 hood struts for 8 years without a problem. this is for an LT1 but i would assume the same rules apply for the LS1. your older worn struts should be fine with a ram air hood.

your stock struts will be fine. but whenever you close the hood, grab the hood from the center or grap from the latch

Stock hood struts are fine, just when you close the hood DO NOT SLAM it. Gently lower it until its almost gonna hit the latch, apply pressure and your good.

Default ws6 hood struts

Go with lighter struts,I just put a ws6 hood on my 98 and the hood goes down so softly without to much force. They're a Sacks #GS330017 and found them online for $14.00 each.

LOL my hood won't shut that way for some reason. it just hits the latch and stops. i have to slam it a bit to get it to shut. never had that problem with the original hood though.
