So since the first month in my relationship with a car lover, I learned about LS1 and posted how I needed help figuring out a gift for my boyfriend. Well Christmas is coming up soon and I would like to ask for HELP again.
He drives a 99 Pontiac ws6 trans am. His car is manual. He already has headers which we installed together. =] He also has no muffler and something is like 3” dumped… I believe the Y pipe… He has drag radials, a lid, shift light, filter, and i think lastly a line lock...
Basically I just need help thinking of something else. I would love to get it cammed for him but that is a little expensive, unless It was for Christmas and his birthday, which is shortly after but I would feel terrible if he didn’t have a gift for his birthday on his birthday…
I was thinking about an ls6 intake or even lower control arms.
I would appreciate any feed back.
Thanks =]

Ls6 intake would be a good, lower control arms, panhard rod, sub frame connectors would be good mods for less money too.

Or something non-parts related.... performance driving school, track time, dyno pulls or tune. How about a photo shoot of you and his car?

The last two are really good ideas. I know tons of guys are willing to drop money on parts, install if they must, even performance driving school because it is/will be fun. These same guys grumble at how expensive dyno pulls/professional tuning are. The photo shoot idea is very different, and probably something he hasn't even thought of. If you go that route, I'd say give him plenty of advance notice to get the car perfectly how he wants it to appear first.

A short shifter and if he hasn't had the car dyno tune get it dyno tuned. Or you can get him the LS6 intake and a ported throttle body should be a little over 400. If yall are thinking about a cam in the future the LS6 intake would be a big plus.

ls6 intake ($300), mgw or pro 5.0 shifter ($200), new shift knob ($20-$100), subframe connectors ($180), or a zaino detailing kit ($120).
i wouldnt get him a cam or anything more expenisive than an ls6 intake. you guys have only been together for a month. keep it simple for now incase things dont work out.

My vote would be for a ls6 intake ($300), and underdrive pulley ($200) or adjustable lower control arms($150).

I like the photo shoot idea too. Its different and what better than staring at your two princesses .... haha. But for parts ... ls6 would be awesome ($300). How about suspension parts? ... does he want his car lowered? springs run about $200. And all the other stuff listed works too. The list could go on and on for parts but I bet he will be happy no matter what.

She's been with him for quite some time, not just a month. But SINCE the first month of their relationship she had already heard about LS1 and has used our forums for help on finding gifts previously.
Get the LS6 intake for him and have it painted if he likes a unique engine bay. just my .02

Id do the intake, a close 2nd would be sub frame connectors. Mind you labor is between 125-200 for weld ins. Also the LS6 intake requires new 01+ Cross over coolant lines. People have cut and modified but to do it right, those need replacing.

Wow, thanks for all the comments. It for sure helps, ALOT....
First, dukesofhazzard you are correct about me being with him longer than a month lol... it's getting close to a year in a half... In the beginning I got him the lid, air filter, shift light, and helped him find some great deals on the other stuff. I know he wants that ls6 intake.
--Thanks for letting me know to go with the ls6 intake for sure if eventually he wants it cammed. Also, I would get it dyno'd for him but he recently just got a brand new clutch and the place said that it is a clutch that ---i guess teaches itself-- (i prob sound dumb right there lol) But he just said it needs 400 miles of like easy city driving so it can do something lol...
If, i did the ls6 intake how much do you think it would cost me for it to be painted as well?? && if painted whenever it gets hot will it fade like hmmmm you know how some headers turn with like a rainbow color and then just kinda burnt looking???
--- About the pics, i got online today and looked up some outfits for some fun (sexy) pics... I love that idea btw. but this is me currently how about i lose 30lbs then i do that lol...

the intake won't get nearly as hot as exhaust headers, an expiranced painter should be able to paint it correctly, and you won't have to worry about fade or it turning a rainbow color. as for cost of getting it painted, it depends on the color, and if you want any thing put on it (flames ect.) but for a base price I would say around 100 bucks depending on where you live. as for your pictures, I'm sure he will find a photo of you and his car together one of his best gifts. My fav photos are ones with my g/f and my cars together. Any guy would be happy to have his significant other as intrested in his hobby as he is, you are def a catch. good luck with the present!

If he's a DIY kind of guy here's a link to a write-up of how to paint it yourself.
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/paint-body-work/1130554-paint-intake.html
That way he can pick the color do it himself and be satisfied about it as well.
If not, then like lynx said, it should only be about 100 bucks.

ls6 intake is a great idea. an electric cutout will make a noticeable difference at a reasonable price though im not sure itll work on his current setup.

I say you should get him SFC's and do the photo shhot. then have those photos turned into a calender it will give him gifts each month of the year. For his b-day get him LCA's and LCA relocators. Then for 2yr. anniversary get some lowering springs. If he doesn't want to lower it then go for the intake. The above mentioned parts will help with traction. You need a solid foundation first to handle the added power from the intake and the cam eventually. You don't build a house without first building a foundation.
